  1. They are open on Saturdays from 8am and will stay open until around 4pm if you are serious about buying a vehicle. Turn up as early as you can and ask to speak to Graham Hodson. Graham is a top bloke and will go out of his way to help you. Ask to see the RB44's and then ask him if he will let you have a good look round on your own so you have no pressure. They don't like you wondering around because stuff goes missing all the time there. They have plenty of RB44's in stock at the moment and if you are going to buy one, now is the time to buy as they have over 50. Some are in unissued condition and lots have winches. There are a dozen or so with the comms body in stock at the minute and they leave the keys in them, so another reason to look on your own so you can fire them up and see which one you like the sound of. They will let you drive it up and down the yard so you can check the diff locks/hi-low range etc. If you buy one, make sure you take out any stuff that you want to keep hold of. Ask Graham to supply a full set of CES as this should be supplied with the vehicle, but they have a habit of taking it off and selling it seperate at shows like Beltring and in the tenders. Likewise with any vehicle docs you find in it, as they aren't supposed to supply these with the vehicle. Happy shopping.
  2. I was also in 27 Transport Regiment, 7 Squadron C Troop.:cool2:
  3. Tachographs are required to be calibrated every two (2) years. The calibration LABEL must not be older than six years. I think you might find that if a tachograph is fitted then it is required to be serviced and calibrated as per tachograph regulations regardless of whether you need it or not. My understanding is that you get a letter from VOSA stating that you are not required to use it for the purpose of private HGV. A friend who is a Policeman sold his Bedford last year as he was told he was required to fit a tacho to his truck even though it was down rated and was not used for hire and reward. That Bedford is pricey in my opinion. You have to ask yourself why someone has bought it and yet it is still to be registered? You can buy direct for cheaper and also buy a box body at the same time then register it yourself. The truck is probably an ex RAF vehicle if it is fitted with a tacho. There are several RAF Bedford MJ's at Withams fitted with tacho's and they are all RAF trucks.
  4. It's all down to the person you get at VOSA if you are going the test route. I've spoke to several examiners from VOSA and they all have different views on the subject. A mate who is a copper owned a Bedford MJ for 12 years and sold it last year because the test centre insisted he fitted under run bars, rear bumpers and tacho. His was a cargo though and down rated and tested every year. He said it wasn't economical to carry on owning it for what he used it for. The year before it went straight through with no problems.:-|
  5. Never even heard of those spiders. I live in Oxfordshire, have we got them here? Any pictures? In what way are they nasty? I presume the Woodlouse spider has some serious fangs to penetrate the shell?
  6. Should this have been checked before the facilities were used?
  7. It didn't get to the point where my skin was coming off, but it was very red and hurt like hell for a while. I couldn't believe how hot the water was. You usually get warm or cold before the hot comes out, but this was instant. I didn't bother with a medic as it wasn't worth contracting swine flu (they had a quarantine area and were wearing masks) and as I'm BFA trained I treated myself. Did you experience this?
  8. Water at a suitably controlled temperature???? The main toilet blocks hot taps where literaly at boiling point and no warming either. I scalded my hand pretty badly and only had it under for a split second.:argh:
  9. I think the under run law came in for vehicles post 1984, don't quote me on it though.
  10. A mate of mine went into the toilets we were using (the notorious Monktons field ones) and did his business. On exit a foreign gentleman proceded to use the one my mate just used. As my mate was washing his hands, the door flew open and the said gentleman proceded to do his business with the door wide open as he couldn't take the smell.
  11. A Ural 4320 box in "as new" condition would be nice, I do love that V8 diesel.:-D
  12. So why can't the "management" make sure that all the civvy stuff is sent to a different field? It happens at other shows? This year was unbelievable regarding all the civvy stuff. It totally spoils the show. One guy opposite me was one of these guys that sticks his nose in everybodys business. He made the point that Generators were very much NOT welcome where he was (not that I had one) and yet there he was in his Caravan and civvy car. What a joke. A good mate of mine was disturbed numerous times by a group opposite that had a massive camp consisting of nothing but Caravans and civvy tents. All they had to their name was a non working quad bike. To say they came close to getting filled in was an understatement, and my mate is not one to get on the wrong side of. I know you have said all you have said about moaning and still going to the show. I'm the same, however I wouldn't call it moaning, as that implies that the concerns raised are being brushed aside, more constructive criticism. The reason people go back is because it's the only 5 day show. I'm sure that if another club or show had access to a site as big and made it into a 5 day show, then that would be a serious contender to W&P.
  13. Surely he has to provide a service, regardless of cost, that complies with the relevent Health and Safty laws in force? Those toilets (the ones I used) were blatently a health hazzard and as such laws were broken. As he is the contractor providing the service, then it is up to him to stay within the law, if he can't provide the service for the money on offer legaly, then he should have declined the contract. The refuse collections were good, but the standard of service provided by the toilet contractor was non existant. I hope he has got the contract next year and leaves the toilets in the same state, as next time I will be armed with the contact details of Kent Environmental Health and will be demanding their pressence. Also I will be taking pictures and sending them to the Kent Messanger to see what they can make of it.
  14. Because those said "idiots" are mainly the guys running the show. There is a "group" that shine above all others in this respect. Last year me and the Mrs had to contend with a kid (well early 20's) on a quad wheel spinning on the wet mud. This caused us to be covered in divits of mud and grass. I shouted at the guy to "come here", but all we were met with was lots of laughing and clapping. This year we were walking to the NAAFI shop and nearly got run over by a Gamma Goat driving at WELL over the speed limit. The same speed limit the same guys are enforcing with their "Officials" tee shirts on. Hypocritical to say the least.
  15. There must be lots of these things if you are getting bitten this often? Surely you would have squashed whatever you knelt on? Get LOTS of bug spray and fumigate the Landy, then power wash the whole of the inside. Should do the trick.
  16. Would you be taking Richard Moore on at his own game by any chance? :-\
  17. Hello and welcome. I am also in Oxfordshire. Are you planning to fly it in the Ridgeway area?
  18. I think he was in 100 Field Regt REME TA in Luton. He was a gun fitter.
  19. As mentioned you MUST use a tyre cage when blowing these up. At one of my old units a rim blew when being inflated and went straight through the breeze block wall. It was in a cage, but there wasn't any cage next to the wall. I (think) it's a legal requirment.
  20. I bought a few solar showers and they were worth triple their price. An absolute godsend and saved going to the shower block. Although they were cold showers as there wasn't enough sun (Sat was great) I spoke to a few people that said they were going to call in Environmental Health, don't know whether they did though. Might hire a loo next year.
  21. RIP Harry. He lived a very long life (double a lot of people) and is now at peace. Sad day indeed.
  22. Well I spent from Sunday to Saturday at the Hop Farm and have to say I and others were not very impressed with the toilet facilities (where we were anyway). I was near to the exit toilets (by the Excalibur lot) and these weren't pumped out until about Wednesday after they were overflowing with urine and well, you know? These then overflowed again by Saturday. They were dirty most of the time (when we got there they were locked and not open until I think Tuesday). The water in the toilets was non existent. This just isn't acceptable, especially as we are paying for it. Also surely the site has to provide a certain amount of toilets by law. When they are inop because they are overflowing surely this is then in breach of this? Not to mention what the public think. Your thoughts please?
  23. As mentioned Mark is my best mate. I have a pristine copy, and signed!! But not for sale I'm afraid. Even though he is my best mate he still charged me for it, LOL...
  24. Mark Cook is my best mate. I've known him more than 20 years. If you want any info on Lightweights he is the man to ask. He is on holiday in the Philippines for a month though (alright for some)
  25. Did you see the Lightweight with all the body panels removed and off road tyres?? One group next to my mate had more caravans than a holiday resort and all they took with them was a quad that supposedly broke down on the Monday. Cheap holiday me thinks... Oh and a machine gun got stolen in that area too.
