  1. A mate of mine is in Germany, a Staffy in charge of Attack and EOD dog training. He has just bought a Defender 90 from Withams and is shipping it to Germany. Withams did have a Helicopter support Defender for sale there that was £5,500+vat, but it's the best condition landy I've ever seen released, it looked virtually brand new. Here are some pictures of some very interesting Landys they (Withams) have just taken delivery of. They were called Land Rover Griffen or something like that. These are a total one off, look at the reg numbers. The green one is awesome, I'd love to have one of these, but I bet the price is too high.
  2. Looks to me like the Herc is on a taxi run and the little bird got up too close behind. Some cheese needs to get the sack.
  3. Thanks. I re-built the axles a few years ago and replaced everything, including brake calipers, all parts from a Land Rover main dealer. Cost me loads (calipers were £350 each alone) but it should keep her going a good few years. The condition you see is how it came out, I haven't touched the cosmetics. It needs a re spray and a bit of work doing to it now though. I fancy doing a rebuild on the old girl, but will need a workshop for that. Still, no rust and it's 22 years old..
  4. Here is my old Series 3 that I sold a few years ago (very reluctantly). She spent 10 years in a garage and I never started it for over 5 years. Flushed the fuel out and added fresh, put a set of jump leads on and she fired after about 20 secs of turning over. Also my current RAF Defender FFR.

    Huey 509

When I was posted in Cyprus with HQ Britcon, UNFICYP at Blue Berret Camp (Nicosia International Airport) the Argentinians ran the Hele side of things. They had a Bell and a Huey. I was lucky enough to blag a few rides in the Huey riding in the side seat with doors open. We flew all over South Central Cyprus and it was a fantastic experience. The pilots were nuts and did their best to make us poop our pants, but that has the opposite effect on me and I loved it. The memories will stay forever. Here are some pictures of the Huey and Bell, as well as me jumping out of the Islander 12,000ft over Dhekelia. Best time of my life....:yay:
  6. I saw you doing sterling service all weekend.:-D I did hear they were thinking about 2 shows a year, but I think some were trying to put him off as it might get too familiar. Has anyone spoke with the owner of the site to see what he thought of the show? A guy i know, Ian, was supposed to turn up with his M35A2 from Poole, but something must have happened as he didn't turn up. I reckon 100 vehicles there would make it a show to book early.
  7. They must have changed it, as it was viewable yesterday...:shake:
  8. That can be the cause. Mine had it's disposal inspection two months after a two yearly inspection and both recorded the truck as fully fit with no problems at all. They changed the transfer box for a brand new item as the old one was leaking (my main gearbox output shaft oil seal is leaking when the box is full. It looses about 1/2 a litre and then stops. I need to order a new one) and put a new fuel tank on (MOD Instruction), so it was inspected properly. Worth looking at though.:cool2:
  9. Here is the link to the photo's taken by the professional photographer of the event. http://www.instantmemories.co.uk/fyp-photos.asp
  10. The words caravan dwellers come to mind here. Total scum.:argh:
  11. Yes, it's running very well. My missus loved having a cabby in the back and has the bruises on her back to prove it!!! Got a 5min video on the camera of the 432 in action.:cool2:
  12. My steering also shakes, and it can be pretty bad at a certain speed. Up to 40mph and it doesn't shake at all, then about 42-47 it's pretty bad. If I floor it to about 50mph it eases off a little. I've also got the new type tyres fitted. I think a lot has to do with the fact the steering doesn't have a damper on it. Also consider it is fitted with split rims and the wheels aren't ballanced. My speedo works, but the drive gear in the transfer box must be the wrong type for the speedo head as it reads 15mph slower than it's actually going. I'm going to book it into Lucas to see if I can get it callibrated. I'm doing 40mph around the 2,000 rpm mark.
  13. Me thinks the Eastern Europeans have got wind of the hobby and are charging well over the odd's for vehicles. £15,000 is 10 years wages in Eastern Europe!!!
  14. Just got back from Stratford Armouries show at Stratford upon Avon. It's the first show of it's kind at this venue and I have to say that it was a really nice informal show. You get a ticket that entitles you to 4 free tee/coffee drinks a day and a free burger from the barbe. The site has (so I've been told) 26 acres more than Beltring. The field we were in was next to the Armouries main building, that has an assortment of exhibits (and free entry to exhibiters), toilets, restaurant and bar. On the Saturday there was live entertainment. They also had clay pigeon shooting for £5 a go. There is an air strip next door where gliders were winched up all day long. There is another field reserved for track vehicles and the owner of the land told those guys they could use it as much as they wanted and at any time. They had a dug out and trench system for WW1 re-enactors. I have to say that I really enjoyed this show, and speaking with members of the public, most had never been to a show like this before. The owner was very approachable and was working all weekend getting his hands dirty. The staff were great and the free drinks and burger were very welcome. If any of you live a decent travelling distance to this event, give it serious consideration next year as the facilities are excellent. There was a professional photographer on hand who would take photo's on request of your vehicle and it was up to you whether to purchase the prints (done there and then) for £10. He has a website and is going to upload pictures of the event in the next week or so, so pop in and have a look. The address is http://www.event-pics.co.uk/index.html It was organised by the Birmingham and West Midlands area of the MVT and the show was called the Green Machine Weekend. I would like to thank the organisers for a great show and look forward to next year.
  15. Did anyone see the programmes on TV recently about Blue Streak and Black Knight and the V Force bombers? VERY interesting programmes and just underlines how flippin good we were at designing military equipment on a shoe string. To think we gave it all up (like everything else). I bet the scientists were gutted.:-(
  16. It's a wake up call when you look at old photo's like those. Time just flies by. RIP, another old soldier gone.
  17. Sorry mate but that's not strictly true. The RB44 is plated at 7.5 tonnes so can be driven on a C1 licence. The MOT is Class 7, so ANY commercial vehicle garage that does Class 7 MOT's can test it, as well as VOSA of course.
  18. I was 2IC of 1 Squadron bike bay, back in the day. I used to ride those MT350's in the enduro racing team, complete with paniers!! That's the bike I passed my test on.:coffee:
  19. I wish the driver a speedy recovery. As mentioned it's lucky he was in an Armoured vehicle, anything else and he would have been killed. I hope he pulls thru
  20. There is a Grit blasting company on the way to Devizes on the A361 from the A4 roundabout at Beckhampton. They do shot blasting and powder coating. They are called MDN Shot Blasting and Powder Coating Company. Don't know the contact info though.
  21. You should have seen what REME did with their vehicles in my old Regiment. Even our G10 was a home from home...:cool2:
  22. The simplest thing to do regarding under age quad bike riding would be to have half a dozen Police Officers on site through out the show to catch them. Then an escort back to the parents and the reading of the riot act and threat of prossocution should do the trick. A guy I know is recovering from a quad bike accident in Canada (he lives there), 5 broken ribs, punctured lung and various other injuries. Look at Ozzy. Kids should NOT be riding these things, especially some that I saw that looked about 5 years old. Blame the parents, yes I certainly do. It only takes a kid to twist that throttle too much for someone to get seriously hurt or someones vehicle damaged. Something WILL happen along those lines, it's just a matter of when.
  23. That will probably turn up at Withams soon, as the Army seem to be getting rid of them. Now is the last time we will be able to buy decent vehicles that are easy to work on. All the stuff coming into service now is far to complicated. Imagine buying one of those new MAN cargo trucks? Based on the civvy truck with the same dash etc, these are run by computers.
  24. The stuff they take to Beltring is stuff they can't shift I'm affraid. They spray them up so they look good and sell cheap. You MUST go to their yard and spend the day looking at all the different vehicles (of the same type) you are interested in as some have new engines fitted etc. There are a lot better examples in their yard for sale believe me. A few still have their factory paint with no over painting, indicating these are reserve units. Yes they have their problems, but if you are just using it for shows and not hammering it off road you shouldn't have any problems. The engines are good and they sound great. They go well and also look good. But you pay the price, they are dearer than the Bedfords, but at 7.5 tonnes you haven't got no where near the hassel getting them on the road. Also ask yourself, how many did you see at Beltring? They certainly aren't common
