  1. ???? I was sure the F12 had a B60 lump, as I have a pair of Twin-Choke Webbers for one on a manifold, which has 3 inlets, (siamesed for the 6 pistons of a B60) not sure a B80 would fit... but it certainly would fly if they could be made to fit!... I was looking at trying to fit them to my saracen, or a ferret... purely as an engineering exercise....:-D
  2. i'll give my mate Malcolm a shout... will get back to you shortly....
  3. saracen APC has 8 passenger seats, and 3 'Crew' seats.... crew seats are not classed as passenger seats. For insurance for my saracen, I use Barry Grainger, very reasonable at £93.25, Fully comp, 1500 miles per year, including £20,000 public liability....., I'm 42:cool2:
  4. I bought a pair of truck batteries, 120 Amp-Hour ones for £70, about 4 years ago.... they've just about come to the end of their useful life for starting the beast, but ok for powering work-lamps etc....
  5. yeah? that cheap?... I'd been led to belive it was far more expensive!... military is what I'm after too.... Larkspur/No19 set or if too difficult to source now, Clansman... to go in my Saracen...:-D cheers, mate I'll be looking into this !, with much interest!:-D
  6. How much does it all cost? ...-to get a radio, do the tests and get a licence?....:-)
  7. ....pity you got the nice silver paint all over the nice confusing yellow wiring...., but looks good otherwise...:-|
  8. so sorry to hear about your problem with the cracked block, in your saracen. I suppose now would be a good time to 'uprade', and slot in the more powerful, (and therefore more fuel-efficient, under-worked B81, from a Stalwart, -...also more plentiful than a B80.....):cool2:
  9. .....-a measly 75kgs? ..... you ought to try manhandling a saracen wheel/tyre, (or 6!) around,.... I reckon they are getting on for around 180-200kgs each!:undecided:
  10. Mettlen...-what you'll get is a chap, (or chap-ess!) from your local DVLA office, who will come and 'inspect' your saracen, and make a note of it's engine and chassis number. From this they will issue you with an age-related Reg. No., mine is 225XUF, although, purely from a 'looks' point of view, I've rather naughtily spaced my number out as per Military Spacing i.e. 22 5X UF, any coppers I've come into contact with have turned a blind eye to this, slightly naughty practice. The DVLA man, and I, could not find any signs of a chassis number, so I was permitted to use the Army No. of my saracen as it's chassis no. -83 BA 78. They don't even need to see it running or driving etc, to issue you any Reg No..... all a little surreal, actually....:-D
  11. Hi Mettlen, My saracen is in the South of England, at Chandlers Ford, a mere stones-throw from Southampton. It is running, and I'm about to do some repairs to it very soon, just as soon as I can track down the bits to change, or repair a leaky fluid-flywheel..... once again you are more than welcome to come round and cast yer peepers over things....:-D, just give me a shout when yer about....:-\
  12. Welcome Mettlen, post some pictures of your saracen as soon as you can please, I know Montie, from South Africa will be pleased, as he's compiling a list of all those left, in private ownership/museums etc. Good to have you with us, no doubt we will be comparing notes in due course.:-D Regards Matt

    Sad cans

Count me in, then.... I'll volunteer to be Saracen Club Secretary, or Chairman, or hey! yes, -I'll be 'barman':-D:cool2::cool2::drive:!!!
  14. I'd love to se 'em try that with a Saracen!:nut:..... wouldn't trust 'em with mine though!:nono::nono:
  15. Probably because it'd be cheaper to buy new discs, or have new ones made, or existing similar ones modified/machined to suit....
  16. go to it, Montie!... save another of our big beasties!:cool2:
  17. I doubt I'll be going for the bit-by-bit Tiger, the 'Combat Tanks' magazine is using up my excess pennies at the moment, next on the list is the Kit-Form Saracen Mk 5 kit, (-which my lovely girlfriend:shocked:, has promised me as part of my engagement present!, lucky me!:cool2:)
  18. I bought a sand coloured one of the 'Henglong' Tigers a few years back, it even had engine/gun/machine gun sound effects, and generates it's own 'exhaust' fumes from a small oil-soaked heating element, buried inside it's back-end, quite convincing too, especially if you use a little drop of diesel or WD-40, or good old 3-in-1 oil, in place of the supplied 'substance'... not sure if it was light sewing machine oil or soap liquid, but still lots of fun for £70!:cool2:
  19. they look like the tunnels/hospital complex under the cliffs/hillside in Dover....the section supposedly closed to public/filled in, ...either there or the similar air-raid shelters under the 'old forts' on Portsdown Hill, just inland from Portsmouth.... -I've been in both! quite scary!:cool2:
  20. .....nice to see you had such good weather!.....it'd be really nice to know when you're planning your next one, -it'd be great to join in the fun!, maybe my saracen will be fixed in time!:cool2:
  21. ...as far as reliability is concerned,... any vehicle can be perfectly reliable, (yes, -even a Saracen!).... it's all down to correct amount of QUALITY maintenance, for that specific type of vehicle. On any of my vehicles, (and one or two are pretty bizarre, by 'normal' standards...:cool2:) I never get recurring faults, I fix them right, 1st time round, ... when I eventually get round to it:nut:
  22. ...then yours is the same as mine, ie a MK 5, onlly from my record cards, it appears mine was up-armoured in 1973.... I may be wrong, I'll dig my cards out again, -once I've wiped the oil/muck off my hands from dealing with engine removal issues!
  23. If only the pic was taken yesterday, and they were all Austin K2's.....:cool2:
