  1. hmmm, yeah, I usually have to 'tinker' a bit with my one, as with so much of it exposed and not originally designed for off-road use the Mini-based electrics and suspension need a lot more attention, still, I find it's half the fun..... I must whizz up to your yard and have a good look at your toys.... how are you getting on with your Saracen? mines still waiting for me to change it's troublesome fluid flywheel!:embarrassed:
  2. 4-wheel steering would be possible in theory, but these Blitz's are so short, (approx 18" - 2ft shorter than a standard Mini), they can virtually turn on their own axis, with a heavy dollop of right foot!, and some owners have fitted individual 'fiddle' handbrakes to tighten the turning circle for off-road trialling.... if you are really clever, you could fit a front-wheel drive engine and gearbox, but with the driveshafts pointing forwards and backwards, and then extend rear frame to fit 2 Suzuki jeep axles, and make it an awsome mini-4WD, albeit with an odd gearchange pattern to sort out, or use an automatic gearbox.... I have seen one with a Ford V6 and a VW gearbox, with an extended rear frame made into a sort of off road pick-up... if you can cut and weld, the possibilities are almost endless:cool2:

    New toy

... and had a good old giggle about it too!:nut::cool2:
  4. howdy... welcome to our friendly forum:cool2:
  5. you could probably tow a TRAILER weighing 2tons MAX, with a Saracen, more than that and you could risk overheating the flywheel...:-|
  6. ahhh, Houston?.... We have a problem!....:nut:
  7. Hi Paul..... I'll volunteer as 2nd driver, if you like..... I have a LGV2 (Class 2 HGV), licence,... and of course am used to 'hooning'* around in my Saracen.... (*hooning...-maybe NOT the right word to use....) anyhow, I'm a willing and experienced volunteer....:-)

    War Horse

I saw this show a while back, when it 1st came out...... I think I'm right in saying, it was SO moving, there was not a dry in the theatre at the end...... simply stunning performance by all the actors,....I'm not normally a theatre-show type, and I was blown away by it.
  9. excellent!, I like it alot!... I just wish that Tamiya made a saracen too.:cool2:
  10. ha! ...it might be a cheap way of getting a repaint!
  11. i may have my saracen sorted by then if you are interested?:cool2:
  12. more or less ANY 'civvy vehicle' can tow one, as long as the towing vehicle is rated for towing an unbraked trailer over 750kgs, say acivvy registered Bedford 4 tonner, or Daf 45 etc....well I'd have thought so anyway!:-|
  13. .... ahem! there are more than 'four of us, here at SOE!......':cool2:
  14. ... yeah!,.. so much nicer when you don't need to use a bag!..... hang on! am I on the right website? LOL!
  15. ... so therefore the drive is disconnected,... that is to say by towing with front lift, the 'driving force' from the wheels in contact with the road is disconnected, which is what I meant,... maybe it was in a roundabout fashion:nut:, though - I knew what I meant:D
  16. such a sorry thing to happen to some very interesting, and in some cases very rare vehicles..... surely the Army could have made more money by selling them off as going concerns, and building heavier 'targets' from scrap ship armour and reinforced concrete.....? That way the targets would last far longer!:-(
  17. 1. pray for rain, 2. pay for fuel, 3. 'Autohome' do an excellent breakdown/recovery service £125 per year, but if it breaks down and can't be fixed, it HAS to go on a low loader, NOT suspended tow,(-at least not without disconnecting drive to front and centre wheels). 4. take it very steady if it's the 1st time you've ever driven one on the road, and have a 'commander/spotter' in the turret, 5. ideally, use intercom too!
  18. Very smart, Clive, Like the new landie!:cool2:
  19. maybe I could try one in my Saracen?:cool2:
  20. you should be ok, as most of the longest part of your journey seems to be straightish motorway. A year or so ago, I drove from Southampton to Ascot and back, in my saracen, to do a prom for a friend, all up it was around 126miles, if I remember, all went very well, no wind-up, (not that I could detect anyway), only issues were fuel filter got a little blocked, by some residue from an anti-corrosion treatment I'd previously used, and it's thirst for petrol, I reckon I averaged 8-9mpg, which is very good for one of these.... at times I was cruising at 60mph! too, verified by my partners VW Passat....(have since checked accuracy of the VW and it over reads by 3-4mph, checked saracen, by using a sat-nav, whilst driving, and top cruising speed seems to waver between 55 and 58mph).... so as long as all your fluids are topped up (including the fluid flywheel!), tyre pressures are correct, (they are all different, front/centre/rear,... please read manual:readbook:....) Apparently the Saracen was the best of the FV600 series when it came to road-use, with very little evidence of damage caused by wind-up.... I have heard a rainy day helps, as it allows for some slippage, but the tyres don't grip too well in very heavy rain, so watch your speed, if it starts to pour! good luck!
  21. What's the 'new' addition, Clive?... some sort of landrover?:-\
  22. Happy ...-um Birthday,.... all downhill from now on.....:-\
  23. welcome to our world, Malcolm... if you have any un-needed saracen bits, I could be interested...:cool2:
  24. .... I can repair your silencer....., -pretty much no matter how bad, and it wouldn't cost anywhere near £375!:cool2:
  25. i'm certain I helped build this Foden Wrecker, when I worked at CeeJay Systems, Alresford, Hants...:-D
