  2. I use something called Spinrite, but you may need to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and put it in a pc for it to work, and thats getting a bit technical... Chris
  3. John, My silencer was fine untill I went further than 20 miles and it fell to bits. I suggest you relieve Richard of his NOS one! I'll have a think about the Ferrets, other than the ones in Belgium there aren't that many around anymore. Chris
  4. John, If I were you I'd get hold of another Ferret and brake it for spares. It'll be much easier and cheaper than trying to restore the burnt out insides, and you'll get bits like the engine deck too which are impossible to find. You'll probably get your money back selling the wings and bins! Chris
  5. Clive, I have 2 of the control boxes, both are the later toggle type. The one in the picture has mod 1 crossed off the dataplate. My detector does have a plug on the bottom, it obviously plugs in and then screws on to something. I need to find a Chieftain and go and have a climb on it! I have seen a photo of the boxes fitted inside a Chieftain turret, so I know the brackets I have are Chieftain too. Thanks for the info, Chris
  6. Clive, Connecting it up should be easy if I can find some cables. I assume there is a mount for the detector stalk which I don't have, so it would be great to see what that is supposed to look like. Please post the Ferret photo if you can find it! Cheers, Chris
  7. Clive, I read your article in the EMLRA newsletter the other day with interest, as I have the kit pictured below: I also have the UHB for the Chieftain ARV, so was aware of the Chieftain application, but I did not know they were fitted to Ferrets too. Do you have any more information on the installation in the Ferret? I'd like to know where all the bits go! Cheers, Chris
  8. Those bridge plates can't be right?!
  9. Sorry Neil, I will get them back to you soon! You still need to come and see the Fox now it's complete again! Chris
  10. I believe the inverted V (/\) was first used in the Gulf war (1991) as it is an Arabic 8 and represents the number of countries in the coalition. After the Gulf it was adopted by the British/Americans and used in most war zones, such as Bosnia, Kosovo etc as a recognition symbol. I'm not sure why they turned it on its side in 2003 for Operation Telic (or Iraqi Freedom if you are an American) but they did. Chris
  11. I'm sorry Jack, but you may have started to realise there are an awful lot of quite bitter post war MV owners out there, and every year the number of events we can attend goes down!
  12. If Great War Truck put on an event I think he would need as many exibits as possible, otherwise there wouldn't be much of an event? Besides, he would be excluded from a 1940s weekend too!
  13. To most people a truck is a truck if it is painted green or not, and anything armoured is automatically a tank. This is why armour gets more attention, if you want to look at trucks go for a drive on the motorway... As for the post war/ww2 debate I don't think any shows should turn away people who make the effort to put petrol in a vehicle and turn up. Unfortunatley most of the shows these days are 1940s themed, and I have known people to be turned away, or put in a seperate field away from everyone else after driving for hours in something post war. This kind of attitude from show owners is not called for, hopefully one day the public and show organisers will realise there is more to military history than saving private ryan. Chris
  14. Paul, I have a Storno Shoreacre UHF radio, which was used in Northern Ireland on patrols. The complete system would comprise 3 radios, 2 manpacks and a base station. My manpack was sold to me as working, and is complete with the backpack and antenna. I do not have a battery or any other sets so can't test it. If you're interested in it drop me an email and I can send you some photos. My address is chris@sirhc.co.uk Chris
  15. Tony, Nice to see you here. Still waiting for our article in CMV though :? Chris
  16. You can do it this way: http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/lsm/dhmg/ferst001.html But if I had to change mine I think I'd take the engine out, clean everything and give it a coat of paint at the same time. Chris
  17. We had a Champ hood from them, which was excellent and cheaper than everywhere else. I would recommend them. Chris
  18. Looks like a standard 109 FFR. If it is 24 volt then it is FFR. If it it 12 volt it doesn't mean it's a CL, as there were standard 109 GS vehicles too. Those civi rear cross members were sometimes fitted in service, and quite often fitted after disposal. Chris
  19. Mark, Check it's not just a damaged rim before pulling it to bits! Chris

Neil, Are you sure the crane is the same on the 623 and 624? I thought the 624 was different? Chris
  21. Paul, Next year bring more wood, we need fire....!! Chris

    Virus

McAfee also reports a virus occasionally when I visit the recent unread topics page.
  23. I think you'll find Neil's confusion is that he wasn't involved with this thread until Richard posted a message directed to him!
  24. I've bought quite a lot from http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/ they usually have some good deals. Chris
