    'C' MV

I agree, Windscreen is the best read. I just buy the others for the pictures. Military machines is a rubbish magazine, most of what they write it wrong, the rest is Land Rovers, and of that most of it is wrong or not really applicable, e.g. prototypes. They even stick pictures of tender sales in to fill up pages. CMV is better, I like the modern stuff (70's, 80's) but I think there needs to be a balance, and that is hard to achieve. They manage much better than the other lot... My personal gripe.. the price guide. It's a load of rubbish. You can't rely on it, so many other factors are involved... for instance they put CVR(T) and a price. Anyone who knows the CVR(T) price market will know a nice Sultan can be had for about £8000 but a Scorpion might be £18000. How can you just divide the price up between the number of vehicles and assume it means anything?!?
  2. Book in as a vehicle exhibitor, park up in the show fields and stick your tent up next to your vehicle. You'll need to get there early in the week though, towards the end of the week the place is usually full and they're sticking people on any spare bit of grass in any of the fields! Chris
  3. Buster, It is not too far from the stalls and quite near to the arena. We camped there once, about 7 years ago! Chris

    fv432

Buster, I have a 432 for sale at the moment. General maintenance isn't too bad and the spares can be found quite easily. If you find a good one (like mine  ) you won't need to take the powerpack out for a long time, if ever. In the army they generally pull the pack to service it, but you can get to pretty much everything with it in place. The biggest problem with taking the pack out is that it has to go up a long way before it comes out, so you need a big crane. Have a look at my advert in the for sale section, and if you want to know more give me a shout. Chris
  5. If you want an easy and cheap restoration project try a Series 3 Lightweight. If you can find a fairly good, oringinal one you should be able to get it on the road without spending too much. Most of the parts are around and are not too expensive. I restored my Ferret when I was 18 Chris
  6. Neil, Our group with be in the Americas field from Monday, we're bringing a few vehicles down from the East Midlands this year. So far we have: CVR(W) Fox CVR(T) Spartan CVR(T) Striker Ferret Mk 1/2 Land Rover Lightweight Austin K2 and hopefully an FV432 Mk 1 Hope to see you there. Chris
  7. Degsy, I need one from an MK to go on the tow bar for my Spartan. If you still have it how much do you want for it? Chris
  8. Ian, Try http://www.vintagemvmanuals.co.uk for the CES. If it's not listed they may still have it. Chris
  9. Ian, The CES number relates to the Complete Equipment Schedule document, which tells you what equipment the vehicle should be supplied with. There is a CES document for all British vehicles, and the kit covered in the CES is normally just called CES too. Chris
  10. Chris, A Defender 110 SWB... do you not mean a Defender 90? :? Chris (Also in his 20's)
  11. Stick your hand in the tank, move it up and down and see if the gauge moves. You might have to take it out and then move it, not sure how much room there is to get your hand in the tank on a Dodge.
  12. Neil, It's on page 2 of Clives link: http://www.webshots.com/search?new=1&source=mdocsheader&words=bovington+unseen (2nd row pictures 2&3) Chris
  13. Yes, it does have a home, in that dusty shed at the back of the tank museum where nobody ever sees it: It would look much better parked next to my Fox at Beltring...! Chris
  14. Do you think they'd let me have the Vixen?! Chris
  15. This one? They're ok, as long as you don't fall off when trying to get in/out out your sleeping bag. Chris
  16. £10k for a nice Saladin would be a bit of a bargain!
  17. Are you sure? Doesn't work for me.
  18. The problem with Saladins (other than the really really REALLY crap brakes) is the lack of them for sale! But yes, they are nice.
  19. It looks like a Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV) to me, this is what one looks like the right way up: I have never seen a Warrior with a dozer blade on the front. Chris
  20. Paul, We have several vehicles, and what the others say is true. We're going to sell our 432 because it never gets used and lives too far away. The only saving grace is that it costs nothing to run due to free fuel, however it is wide and slow and not much fun on the roads. I think you need to add CVR(T) to your poll. We have a Spartan and it is a really wonderful vehicle. It's dead easy to work on, if you need to get to the engine you can take the top off and most things are right there. The engine can be removed in less than an hour, and goes back in just as quickly. The tracks and wheels aren't too heavy, if a bit expensive, but how far do you want to drive it? It goes like a rocket too, I have to slow down for speed cameras! Biggest problem is of course transport though. That's my vote anyway..! Chris
  21. What ever you buy first try and get something that is already on the road, or not far off. If you start with a wreck which is going to take you a long time to finish you may get bored, fed up and lose interest. We started with an on the road Champ, progressed to a wrecked Ferret and have restored several vehicles since. Get something you can use and enjoy to start with, even if it isn't perfect, then if you're keen move on to more serious projects. Chris
  22. Thats not the first time I have heard of that happening! Lee, do you have the spares etc to fix it? A friend of mine got some transfer boxes from Jacksons so they are about. Chris
  23. It does work, honestly! They also do a fuel tank repair kit, which includes marine clean and some fuel tank sealer. You clean it out and then pour the sealer in and swish it about, that should get rid of the rust problem? Chris
  24. I quite like having a personnel carrier, they are useful for shows, especially when it rains or very sunny - you can sit in the back with a hot or cold drink, depending on conditions! You can also sleep in the back, which saves putting up a tent. I wouldn't fancy trying to sleep in a turret, I think I'd probably wake up with a sharp bit of metal stuck in my face. If I were to have an FV600 it'd have to be a Saracen Mk 5 ACV. I did bid on the one below, but someone beat me to it by a hundred quid. Chris
  25. I always use this for cleaning, it works quite well: http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=8680 Chris
