  1. Shes a really nice looking CMP. Glad you found one in such good condition.
  2. We had to fit a new bed and replace cross members on our 1950 civilian Commer, luckily there is a timber yard about 15 miles away that has a large barn where all its offcuts are kept. The offcuts are all fairly big sizes and there are literally thousands of them of many different types of hardwood. I managed to by enough offcut Ash to replace the whole bed of the lorry, mostly planks 150mm x 25mm by about 8ft. They do differ in size by up to 20mm in width and can also be shorter, some are 6ft. Anyway the planks were all individually priced and I paid no more that £20 for any single plank. So, it does cost a bit but its well worth it. I plan on doing the same in the next few months to rebuild the body of our 1942 Commer Q2.
  3. I dont think we will remove this one, everything is stripped down off it and access is very good. Next week I have a few days off so hopefully will be getting quite a bit done!
  4. With the body removed we now have really good access to the whole of the cab and rear chassis, its thrown up some nasty rust areas like the rear cab mounting and lower edge shown below. In removing the cab steps we have also found they need plenty of fabricating/welding as does the lower edges of the front wings. The passenger side cab door needs to be re-skinned too. It'll keep me busy for a while!
  5. That is an interesting story, like you say though the fishermen must have been well paid or out of work in the winter!
  6. I have looked through their work and must say it looks very good, lots of British trucks. I will give them a call. Its funny how many of us are after Canvas!
  7. I've also had a look at Kayospruce and found the Cotton Canvas. The brown does look good.
  8. Thank you Gents, that gives me some good leads to follow.
  9. I dont have the old canvas as a pattern. But, I thought before I strip all the rotten timber out I can put all the hoops back on and it can all be measured up.
  10. So, now the body has been removed from our Commer Q2 I am looking to source replacement timbers and looking ahead to find a suitable canvas. She is 1942 so base colour will be SCC2 so canvas will need to match, does anyone have any recomendations for canvas suppliers/manufacturers?
  11. Re-read it and your right Richard, iread it as 'buyer to collect overseas' but there should be a comma after collect I think. Teach me to skim read!
  12. It says pick up from overseas? Then it says the pick up address will be give when the auction has ended? How can you cost and find transport if you are not given its location? The truck does look interesting.
  13. So what happens in a case like this, would it be reported to the police?
  14. I know of quite a few commercials saved from RGM, we plan to head there this summer on the search for parts for one of our other projects.
  15. You're right Ted, it is listed as a Q2. that's some really good information. Does the Data book give details of the other Q2 body styles? GS / Pre-Heater etc?
  16. Thanks Ted, Thats a very nice larger Superpoise. Its interesting to note that's its chassis does terminate very close to the rear spring hangers as mine does. I have no record though of the Q2 being used in this way. But as so many were supplied as simply cab/chassis to the RAF could there have been some one-offs or special purpose trucks?
  17. Thanks Pete, We will check for holes in the top of the chassis rails.
  18. Looking good, did you spray or brush paint the primer?
  19. Thanks Ted. That's very good to see that information. My Commer definitely has the similar length chassis to one of these but it does not have the PTO. I suppose a possibility that I haven't thought of is that it could have had a change of gearbox postwar?
  20. She looks like a very good project, and would make a really good rebuild.
  21. An interesting part of history with plenty of conspiracy theories attached,,,
  22. I am wondering if the Commer Q2 normal control trucks may have been used for this? My Commer has a very short chassis with heavy duty towbar?
