  1. I still think the state of preservation is really great, it could almost be left as it is.
  2. Looks good. I have the same philosophy, just keep tackling little bits at a time and before you realise it you look at your project and you can see things coming together.
  3. We have now removed all the cab glass. The rear window needs a new rubber, the door windows are perspex so they need replacing but I am really at a loss regards the windscreen. We got the rubber off today and a replacement will be fine but the lower frame is crumbling apart, it has 2 internal lips and is a very complicated cross section. Fabricating a replacement will be very difficult. It shares the screen with the postwar Q4 so I have put some feelers out for any complete screens as spares.
  4. I might arrange to go have a look at this Dennis just out of curiosity, see if it has its chassis plate etc to shed more light on it.
  5. I did wonder if it may have been fitted postwar, the truck is 1939 so I would have expected the petrol engine.
  6. Were these wartime Dennis 3 tonners ever specified with Perkins engines? Just out of interest my friend sent me a photo of one in a barn not too far from us but I noticed the Perkins Square deal all round badge fitted to the grill.
  7. Hi Wally, would that be all Commer 30cwts have a classification on 4?
  8. Havent been over to Normandy for a few years now, will get there again one day, perhaps next time with our truck. Lovely to see the bikes there.
  9. I also think some of the photos are when the trucks are brand new as they also dont have division markings etc and look more like factory publicity shots.
  10. Looks very good. Due to the ongoing pandemic my company have decided to let holidays untaken so far roll over to next year. So, like you I have now got an extra weeks holiday next year and hopefully it will be spent on our project!
  11. I wonder where the 5 and 6 came from on Wikepedia, although my experience of it there are many anomolies. I do have a few photos of wartime Commer 30cwts but they just have the yellow plate without a number on it.
  12. I notice they do Bridge plates too. I was reading the WW2 vehicle markings on Wikipedia and under bridge plates it says the '30cwt GS has a plate of 5' but then under 6 it says 'most 30cwt's'. I wonder why it would be a 5 or 6?
  13. Your right, if he knew he would have told you. Any chance of him giving you a previous owners name so you can try to piece together some history? I had a lucky break with my Commer tracking down a previous owner from many years back, they then shed light of a previous owner to them so I had a good lot of research potential.
  14. Did the vendor know any history that might point you in a certain direction?
  15. Looks like its had a good deal of work done already, its a nice project.
  16. Its a very comprehensive website, thats the sort of things I am after. Anyone used magnetic markings that they list?
  17. Just a random question, we are just planning ahead to the painting of our Commer Q2 and wondered if there was anywhere that we could get formation sign stencils?
  18. Its probably just its not been registered since the dvla records were put on computor. I have a Ford car that didnt show when searched for so I had to find documented evidence linking the number to the car and then I could apply for the number to be re-instated.
  19. Like you say, in the first pic she does look orangey but it looks a lot better in the next ones. Paint does take on a different hue when it dries properly but its always worrying when at first look it doesn't look like you thought it should! The finish does look good and I think that finished colour suits it. Well done.
  20. Before we start stripping all the rotten timber from the Commer body we are going to fit all the hoops and take lots of photos and all its measurements. We will do that today. I am a Design Engineer by trade so will take all the dimensions and sketches back to work and draw it up properly. Then I can send the drawings on to a canvas maker when the body is being repaired.
  21. Most modern lorry trailers use Keruing as the timber for floorboards. Its a very tough and hard wearing timber.
