  1. When the Ferret was introduced into Canadian service it was the only vehicle with the central round style slave socket, which has become the NATO standard it seems. The other vehicles in the CF (Canadian Forces) usage at the time had the American style with the two offset pins. As I bumble around trying to assemble things for my Canadian Ferret I was pondering one day as to how the Ferrets could have been slave started by anything other than another Ferret if there was no adapter. So, knowing there are some smart people on Maple Leaf Up I posted this question over there and CMPMAN aka Rob Love replied that my suspicion was correct and that there was a special short cable and that he happened to have one in his special shed. I coincidentally had a trinket that turns out he could use so we did a swap by mail. I am now the proud owner of a quite uniquely Canadian piece of kit for a Canadian Ferret. My thanks go to Rob Love for his generosity. Regards Robin
  2. Dear Richard, I respect your viewpoint. I will search elsewhere R
  3. Welcome Mike, we too are addicts, some of us choose to admit it also. Did you have a camera with you in those days? Maybe some pictures to share with us? R
  4. If you look at the article down near the bottom is a target that looks awfully like a Landing ship thingy just like the one in the other thread that is being "saved" R
  5. Thanks for posting the thread and putting the link up. I think it is done with class and respect and deserves a tip of the hat to those who did it. True it is an advertisement but we all can clearly see that but it acknowledges the War and keeps it in the public eye and will raise funds for the RBL. I have no chance of buying at Sainsbury these days but my family out here thought it very well done and enjoyed it. Solid seal of approval here R
  6. Welcome Hmap Maybe you will manage to come up to Ontario, Canada, in the summer and join many other enthusiasts at the Ottawa Valley Land Rovers event we call the Birthday Party in June. Welcome Robin
  7. some interesting responses, we seem to be getting closer. I need to prove a point, with someone who doesn't want that being done, so I need ironclad documentation. I am not at liberty to explain much more than that, but I need to be able to drop a sheaf of papers on the table if push comes to shove. Clive yours sounds like it is close R
  8. For those of us NOT in the UK can anyone post a link to it so we can chime in also? R
  9. I was hoping to find something in the Bulldog project that might say something like "The FV432 doesn't even meet current standard ABC123 and hence needs raising to " but alas not as yet. Still searching R
  10. Good day, I am trying to settle a dispute that needs documents for me to prove the point. Can anyone point me to any document on the web or any manual that states to what level of protection the original FV432 family were built to please? To make it very clear, I do not need the Bulldog upgrade level details Thanks in advance R
  11. I have been watching a lot of different videos over many years and wanted to hear why vehicles get loaded on forwards or backwards. R
  12. What are you supposed to do with the extra length on these straps? The older straps on older vehicle you could coil up the end bits but I am not familiar with these ones. Help would be greatly appreciated R
  13. I tend to agree with your opening gambit, but would add that the good old Land Rover is a great wagon on a daily basis. R
  14. Dear All, great replies, Mike, that was what I was looking for, exactly. Grand info from the forum as usual R
  15. Howdy All, Can anyone give me the VIN number at which Defenders (90 and 110) changed to disc brakes please? We are trying to identify vehicles in an auction remotely Thanks R
  16. Chris, I will ask Al, he has not had much time to be on here recently. Ours is ok. R
  17. Welcome, do I suspect you might be from North America with a user name like that? Some people find it helps to add their location in the top right of the profile bit that shows up. Look forward to seeing what you own and operate or have owned. welcome in Robin
  18. I heard allegations that an owner of a Land Rover 1 tonne had had a replica 105 light gun made to tow behind their vehicle. 1 Can anyone confirm this 2 does anyone have any pictures 3 can anyone put me in touch with the person please Thanks Robin
  19. If you want putting in touch a friend of mine has one he bought from Dirk in Europe R
  20. That being said, if you are going to do anything inside the gearbox please do document it and share as many others are dying to understand the inner workings of the TN15 box. I am one of them R
  21. From what I understand it was too increase air flow over the radiator. R
  22. From what I recall Preston is working on a British Mk2/3. Robin
  23. Brilliant info, thanks to you all. That photo of the RM set up is just grand. No one would believe it unless you saw the photo. Classic R
  24. The question was generated as a local sale may yield two ex Lightweight FFR unitary stations. My best mate has recently acquired a somewhat civilianised S3 FFR and seeing as how tripping over anything British military out here is about as common as the proverbial hens teeth I am encouraging him to buy them. Hopefully if they wont go in his S3 109 then I can save them for someone else just by having somewhere to store them. Maybe even just a display of the unitary set up on its own would be a hoot. Anyway, I'm off to sharpen my pencil and practice my best "ooh t'aint worth much, even at scrap price I would be doing you a favour chum" routine in the mirror! Thanks for the input will report back later R
