  1. Congratulations on getting the book published, you must be very proud. I am sure there is so much work that you have done to get it finished. I will put the book on my Christmas list Regards Robin
  2. Having donated before I feel ashamed to say that I have forgotten to pay this year. I would be happy to have a flag bside my name with a count down to renewal time that I can see as a reminder and a badge of honour so others can see I have paid to assist in the costs of the forum. Now I have to get my lady to do the paying bit, i'm not good at technology! Robin
  3. Welcome to the forum, I have no clues on your problem, but likely someone will bimble in and comment soon, I hope. Robin
  4. There is some good technique and a lot of mud and some sad looking wrecks being hauled around in this one. I think the Chally went on to become a gate guardian but i am likely wrong as usual R
  5. I think I know who wants to put a Kremlin kit back on theirs don't I? Someone should do it, will make it quite the vehicle to show off at car shows. R
  6. The Supacat steers by ackerman steering and a skid steer function. So if you put the tracks on you have to lock the steering column by means of the special block. When we bought the machine there was only one set of tracks for sale so by that we deduced that Canada only bought one set as everything was sold off at the auction. Next year we plan to fit the tracks and see how it works, on a few inches of snow. These tracks look as it\f they have never been used. Robin
  7. And Clive, it is now thanks to you and your passion for the subject, that the material is out in the public domain for all to see and know should they pass by. Thank you for doing that Robin
  8. Alien, would the squadron sign be the opposite colour to the background ie green on a black area etc or would it have been a different colour ie yellow or red. I have seen all types over time. I have been watching the Lionheart exercise series on youtube but it is difficult to tell which were BAOR based wagons and not uk ones. Thanks R
  9. Dear Alien, Knowing a small part of your service history from reading it elsewhere I was hoping you would reply. Brilliant answers and what I suspected from my other research but wanted to see if it could be confirmed without prompting anyone down any particular avenue. Thank you for replying Robin
  10. Blimey! At first the name Heath Robinson springs to mind but you know in the end some of the simplest ideas are the best and downright effective. So Clive, how did it work in practice? Robin
  11. Dear all, and especially those who served and know. What were common practices for vehicle markings for Land Rovers for a REME LAD attached to a tank unit such as 4 RTR? Did they have a tac sign on the doors? Did they ever carry the REME colours on a decal or hard plate at the front of the vehicle. Was a tac sign like a wrench or spanner used, that is how it is done over here but I dont presume anything. BAOR usage, so a Union Jack sticker front and rear? Would REME personnel wear the black coveralls of the RTR with their own cap badges in a black beret? Anything anyone can illuminate this with is greatly appreciated Thanks Robin
  12. What do they say, "Tiny steps, one at a time" What a dolt I am. No need to confirm, just an admission. Thank you Tony for making me go read what I had already posted. Tony is correct. So the data card is one part of the history but the Merlin chunk of history should be inserted above the last line on the data card and it will all make sense. So can anyone decipher what the line dated 17/3/87 unit title "ODA (M/G A/C)" and then below it unit title "ODA (EQUIP A/C)" means? It is after this line that the Merlin history kicks in and carries on yet the last line of the Merlin ties in with the data card. I think I should almost re-write it all as a history card like other have done. Im wondering is there a list of the UIN codes as used on Merlin somewhere or will I have to ask MOD for that? Its all becoming absolutely clear as mud now . . . . R
  13. Dear Steve, Thank you for posting, what a wonderful stroke of luck that you served around the same time. I have no clue as to what markings I can do the wagon up in and a REME slant would be different and appropriate. Would love to see any images of wagons from the time even if not 1 tonnes. Anything that gives clues to what was done at the time. I am assuming you were REME. Did you recall any 1 tonne wagons at the unit? What was the vehicles that the Regiment was on in those days? Chieftains? If you have stuff you would like to share please post in here or email me. Brilliant, Thank you Robin
  14. So here we have it. So I only see two units. The 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and 4th Royal Tank Regiment. Can anyone else make anything else out? Thanks Robin
  15. Edd is correct. They are for a Supacat ATMP. Can anyone figure out what other component that you need to fit to be able to use them? The component is small, steel, and has a clamping function. R
  16. Spring is happening, the snow is slowly melting, the clocks have gone forward, there is a sense that vehicle season is around the corner in a month or several. I was digging through what I thought was a pile of old invoices and receipts from the previous owner in a binder this morning. I had a nice surprise, he had applied for and was successful in getting a copy (looks like a photo) of the original Vehicle History Card. I am having it scanned by a more techie person, my lady, and will post it up soon. Interestingly there are some differences to what came back on the Merlin report and I will need some help in deciphering it. Somehow I put more faith in a record that is hand written and made at the time rather than lifted data from some computer that had to be data entried by someone who could have made their own version of what units might be from an era that they were not around in. Its almost like Christmas and my birthday (yes Tony you missed that one) all rolled into one. R
  17. Argocat sadly is not the correct answer but a very creditable attempt. Funnily I went look on the web after posting and think this is even more rare than I thought and has prompted me to think that I will fit it for a demo later this year, around December perhaps. Robin
  18. I was doing some housekeeping this week. I had to move this. Then I got thinking, "I wonder how many people have ever seen this optional kit?" Then I thought that maybe we should have some fun. So, guess away, tell us what this is for. I have one more clue picture but I will hold it back for a bit. Have fun Robin
  19. Steve, I love a mystery and I think your attention to detail is wonderful. Keep going and you will find some kind of answer somewhere. So what if 1 plus 1 ends up being 3. Its your wagon and you should do with it what you want, life is short, enjoy your hobby. I love watching these mysteries unfold, some pictures would be nice by the way so we can visualise what your on about with all these brackets and holes etc. Thanks for taking the time to post this up. Robin
  20. Calling owners of the following vehicles:- 06 CC 65, 00 DC 83, 01 DC 08, 02 DA 26 Chirp up Robin
  21. Dear Nick and others, Thank you for your replies. My intention is to modify my Land Rover 1 Tonne Forward Control in the following manner. The basic intent is to enable:- 1 allow quick disconnect trickle charging 2 battery master switch 3 inter vehicle slave socket The following functions were not part of the original build specs. As I am somewhat of a rivet counting purist I do not want to deface the vehicle, so my credo of "no new holes, nothing welded on" has to be respected. The only way I can do this is to remove the original battery box lid and preserve it and fabricate a new one using the same securing method of zeus fasteners. The new lid will look like it was meant to be there but have those three facilities included. Thanks for the tip Nick Robin
  22. Thanks for that Chris, is that really a fair market price? Robin
