Tom, Are you intending to go for a complete finished bike, or a do it upper ?? If your prepared to do minor or major work and travel to collect there are bargains to be had, I've collected mine from 3 corners of the UK, they all fit in a Berlingo van if you take the front passenger seat out...... Price can depend on a lot, as Ferg mentions there are ringers, so do your homework first, a mistake I made not long ago but it turned out OK ( with the help of Ron and Jan) but was a bit overpriced, but the previous one was a steal even with the bits I had to source, the last one was one you mention a BSA WD M20, a true bargain and needs very little. I'm like Ferg and love the Matchless (ever since I seen the one on the film "A Bridge too Far" when I was a kid ) I've now a enough spare parts to build another G3L, (except the frame is post war, but intended to build a run a round with these). I see your in the North West, If your not far from Liverpool you can drop by and compare the BSA to an Enfield..... one is certainly lighter than the other.....

I know its an old thread, but after searching for an article on the LSB conversion for the 321 I was sent here, looking at a one or two names I recognise, Iain I was in contact with you a few months back regarding the article by Leighton........ Small world considering I'm a member here. So I'm looking at converting one of my 321's to LSB and also giving a bit of lube and grease etc to the selector etc , I'd like to follow Leighton's article by the letter regarding the LSB, except I'll use the time lapse fuse as the switch, I'd also like to find out the supplier and contact details of the parts he used ? 73

Ron, When I mention quality ......I was meaning more about the overall finish, as it was designed to take the shock and impact and not transmit it to the contents, the quality control would of been more in line about load testing etc rather than welds all ground nice and flush. I would say a good comparison is the Sten Gun, not the nicest of finishes but did its job very well.......

I doubt very much the originals had much of a build quality, with the intention of something being scrapped once opened, I doubt the quality was a big issue at the time as long as it did the job.

I received an email yesterday, the guy who contacted me had made contact with the seller, who was very open and said it was a reproduction one.

I can't remember if I posted something regarding a Flying Flea cage that was at the Malvern about a year ago ? Someone contacted me yesterday to say there was another one there on Sunday which had the same price tag (£2000). I contacted Ron last year and it seems there are only two originals in existence......... although the guy who contacted me said he thought this one was original due to the pitting etc under the paint and general condition......... with Rons ear to the ground last time and the info he got I very much doubt the one on Sunday (could be wrong ) but for another to appear in the same venue with the same price tag within a year I have my doubts, just wonder if anyone here seen it ?

Just acquired a Clansman RT320, and to be honest don't know the first thing about it, main purpose is to use as ham radio at a later date when I get a licence, at present just want to use as a receiver, I may need the whip antenna as I don't think there is one with it, just looking for the best place for spares, parts etc for future apart from ebay ? Thanks in advance.

The War dept site, as Ron said has not been updated since Keiron Died, all the bikes AFAIK are all sold, think I bought the last one the RE WD/C Something to do with the website owner not allowing his son to change anything, as he doesn't have the correct log on details etc. Stuart Bray had some nice G3L's in not long back but were demanding a high premium around £8000 at the start think they dropped down to £7 k something. There is someone else looking for a WW2 bike in the heads up for sale, patience is the key they do pop up when least expected, I've searched on ebay for spares etc and had links to WD G3L's for sale, but when you type in the main search for WD G3L they never come up ?? It does pay to alter your wording too, such as "World war two matchless" or similar.

Keep looking, they do come up when least expected, keep an eye on ebay also..... I found two of mine on there and one on car and classics. All in need of restoration but the latest (from ebay) only requires a paint job. If you do have a preference, I'd stick to that, also have a look at what spares etc are available. When I was looking for parts for my G3L I've ended up with enough bits to nearly complete another bike, only because some parts came with a job lot of others. Have you posted anything on the Motorcycle part of the forum, lots of experienced hands there and probably a lot more leads to what may be coming to the market.

Have a look on car and classic they have several M20's on there at present one in Military trim the rest in civilian trim, also a G3L on Milweb. Are you looking for a finished bike ready to go or a project running restoration?

Thanks Jan, Thats a very handy article that needs to be archived somewhere, I always thought the one I have (The Lycett rear spring) was to allow for the ribbed mudguards etc, but makes sense to keep the rib for extra strength.

Thanks Ron, Appreciate the offer, are you in need of a seat with the ribbed guard section underneath? It just reminded me of some pics Jan had sent of the ones he produces for the M20. Still need to see what's on the M20 to be honest.

The last bits to go in the temp shed were some tinware off my WD G3L that were hanging up, these are the few bits that weren't boxed up, I noticed the rear seat and was trying to compare it to some pics Jan had sent me regarding the rear seat I mentioned in my previous post on my M20 which I didn't think was correct. This one pictured is definitely not original to the G3L as the mudguard has had some holes welded/brazed up in the past were the original was secured. I cant bring the pics up he sent me for some reason, can anyone ID this seat ?

Chris, Although I cant help on the spot welder, I've been looking for a all in one converter for tig welding steel and alloy , there are machines that include a plasma torch some of these machines also have the ability to do spot welding with a single point gun, have a look on youtube there are a few videos etc. You say jeep build ? is this from scratch using new made panels etc?

Wow, I'd expect that price for a Wel Bike but not for a Corgi....

Thanks Ron, Be a while till it gets any TLC, but like you said it is a solid and straight forward restro, there is other bits which come with it, also the bottom of the pannier frames, on the subject it come with some Panniers, which are a leatherette with webbing straps, made by Midland which I guess are from the 50's 60's ? if anybody is looking for some. Appreciate the info on the engine I may just do that, I was going to put the original back and keep the 600 for the M20 frame I have plus I've got the RAF contract rear section for a sidecar.......... but that would be many moons away. Sourced a WD/C petrol tank the other day, so can move the CO one on I bought last month......... or maybe wait for a tankless CO to come along !!!

With the rain stopping for a short time, I had the chance to cut the grass yesterday and had to move the M20 so a good opportunity to get a few pics, I don't know if anyone seen this on ebay a few months back, I was surprised it never sold as it was a very good price but never met the reserve, as I was the highest bidder I contacted the seller, I said I would call him back but I'd left it too long and he had sold it to someone else, such is life but he kept my number just in case, a few days later he phoned and said the buyer had dropped out and would I still be interested.......... It would of been nice to pick it up and get some OD paint on it before I went to Normandy but time wasn't on my side, so as soon as I got home from France I was on the road again to pick it up, Its got a 600 engine at present but have the original that was in the bike but not matching, plus some other bits that come with it, the owner had put a modern carb on but have original along with the tool box etc, only thing I've noticed is the oil tank hasn't the correct lid, rear seat is not correct, dynamo end cover missing no battery and no wiring loom , The rear section of mudguard has been replaced and has a Chassis plate, Contract No C 11101, although it doesn't relate to this bike I'd be willing to swap exchange etc if anyone has a S 1048 plate ? It really is a solid bike, the original engine only requires a bottom end bearing, apart from that it just requires a paint job, Its unfortunate that I cant do anything at present, but thats another story... The tax disc is a copy of the original, also have a copy of the key card with the bikes details, at the bottom of the page its got HMVF so come from this forum somewhere ? Not the last owner but the previous was gearing up to get it back to Mil spec, as it come with the transfers for the tank census number and division etc. I cant say I was needing another bike but it was too good to pass on.......

IIRC, there is also an article on the BSA M20 site regarding making your own bags...........
