  1. Understand that Ron, I've got an idea regarding the chain lube etc, The dry clutch was to do with a thread regarding a Triumph or Norton ? someone had changed it to a dry clutch or mentions a dry clutch conversion, just wondered if this is common ? Good news........ I picked up the M20 today, its all there (I think) long day 12 hour round trip, all I've done in the last few weeks is stick Diesel in the Berlingo......
  2. Thanks Ron, Really appreciate it, I'll give it a whirl and see what its like, its certainly better than what was in there, on the subject of clutch's etc can these be run dry with the right plates?
  3. Whilst looking for a Clutch drive /spider for a WD/C, I never had much success and started out making one although the blank was machined ready, I was making a cutting tool to cut the splines but my machines were busy with something else at the time. Whilst in Normandy last week it was suggested I visit Owens in Wrexham, (Thanks to Roy and Keith) I went today on the off chance and I picked up these below, although the one with the spider in is for the CO, the other which has no spider is the correct fit for the shaft for my gearbox, but is a direct drive rather than a crush drive, just wonder if it would make much difference if I fitted this ?? Any thoughts ?
  4. Yep, couldn't remember his last name, I've a few pics of him in front of the Chateau on the site, but never got his contact details. I can forward them to you if you can pass them on.
  5. Spoke to Someone you know Ron who was staying on the same site, I only met him by chance as I was wheeling my pushbike into the site and seen two WD bikes, Both Velocette's ............ Pushbike suffered too many punctures and the AJS had broke down, I had all manner of tools with me and wire etc but forgot to take the 12V components to do the conversion..... spent most of D Day pushing bikes..... still had a Great time as I was locating bunkers etc, some that are not well known. Back today after 890 mile round trip.......
  6. No, In the Berlingo van, no WD bikes ready as yet, but brought My AJS 350 with me, wish I'd done the 12 volt conversion before I'd left, I brought my tools to do it here but forgot the 12v bits..... not worried but the box with the bits had my back up Hexi cooker. Think I,ve got enough gas left for a few cups of tea, salad on the menu tonight anyway, with some fine and cheese.
  7. I was thinking that myself Mike, two lads who were on the next pitch to me were there on there M20's
  8. Did they recover it ? I was at Longues Sur Mur Battery yesterday, Didn't know there was something on as I got to the edge of the cliffs there was a big gathering, don't know what for? as all I seen was a rescue inflatable and a rescue boat behind it, I doubled back and made a sharp exit as the more crowds gathered and the road was grid locked, no way was anyone getting out of there till late evening, I had a dead line to meet, need to get to lidl to get some beer.....lot to be said about using a car park and walking.
  9. Apart from what you say Colin looks good to go, wish mine was near completion but have had many delays like yourself many things got in the way...... Only thing that doesn't look correct is the Battery box holder being at an angle ? Plenty of repro speedo brackets about, I'd get some pics to you but am getting the van ready for tomorrow. keep us posted how you get on, you'll be short on replys at present as probably a lot who post on here are in Normandy.
  10. The Ferry was a freebie ........ I work for them and we get 3x free trips a year but only one from Hull....... its only a small van (Berlingo) Made a mistake on the price it was south east of Bayeux £70 for 3 nights, (the £33 was one near the Somme) I looked in a camping guide then googled the areas then looked for other sites etc, there are many campsites close to popular ones but not all are on the internet, as they are part of Chateau,s etc. If you pick an area then zoom in on the map and look for site's, Took me a few hours, but narrowed it down to a few, only problem is they will take a deposit but it doesn't guarantee a pitch until confirmed......... had one knock back. Give these a try, Chateau de Martragny camping.
  11. I'm heading there tomorrow arrive Wednesday in Zebrugge, Just booked a campsite north Bayeux, 1 x pitch, just me and a van with a AJS 350 in the back +pushbike (not enough time to get one of my WD bikes ready) Site was £33............. for 3 nights then off to the Somme.
  12. Thanks Ron, For some reason I couldn't reply yesterday (there was no submit button).
  13. Thanks Ron , thats excellent, makes life a lot easier with that weld, I can near enough judge the sizes etc of the hole and the slot, just the fastening assembly diameter and length would be handy.
  14. Can anyone help with a close up picture of the battery box holder at the side of the top and also at the hinge ? I'm fabricating one based on a few pictures and what I have left, But cant tell if the hinge was separate and brazed/ welded on or it was all one piece. Also where the two halfs meet up over the battery box, a picture I took at the W&P show a few years back show they are off centre.
  15. Wish you luck Ian, few generous offers there. I'm hoping to get to Normandy myself but unfortunately it wont be on a WD bike, although The Kawasaki ZZR will be in Nato green if it gets finished on time, or its a Black AJS Model 8 if I can get it to stop.....
  16. Regarding the difference in the Clutch spider, is it just the internal diameter that is different or is the whole clutch different? I would say I've got a CO clutch on a C main shaft, looks like it was the rear that was just biting on the shaft where the diameter steps up although one part of the internal spline has been worn away so guess it was just haging on......... Hitchcocks and Burtons didn't have any, but did speak to someone who may have some bits tucked away. I'll make a start on making one in the mean time.
  17. Thanks Ron, Much appreciated, nice bikes by the way.
  18. Thanks Ron, I'll phone around tomorrow but I've got a feeling I'll be making one, anything on the box that will confirm what one it is? only ask as the bike does have a mis mash of bits etc.
  19. If your baffled Ron then I'm really confused....... the bottom studs what are on it are way off but could make a bracket no problem to anchor to the fixing points. I noticed the WD/c and CO tanks, the outlets are behind the fixing points, , Bike be stripped for a long time so may find a decent tank before I need one but it will certainly do for time being. Regarding the clutch centre or spider as some call it, I mentioned it to Jan and he says the WD/C and CO are different, as in the main shaft size. I know the CO used Burman boxes for a certain contract but would of thought the 4 speed RE box standard ?
  20. Thanks Ron, The tank came off a BSA M20 but he said it isn't a M20 one....... someone has welded the lugs on the front to fit it to a BSA. In his description he mentioned possible Enfield. I'll get a few pics of it and post. I've searched high and low for a tank and they all seem to reside in Australia, postage is a killer. Jan offered me some controls so have emailed him and I'm also after one of his tool boxes. I need to contact Hitchcocks etc to see if they have a clutch inner/spider. I picked up a few things with the bike, including four Dunlop rims, needed two for another Matchless build. More than happy to hear it start, but guessed it wouldn't take much, pity about the clutch as I was really enjoying myself.
  21. First off a big thanks to Ron and Jan for there help etc before I picked this up, although originally it was a Mate who was interested in it and I'd contacted Ron who contacted Jan regarding info on the bike, some of you may of seen it at Kempton, my mate decided against it and i thought it may be a worthwhile restro or runner...... Picked it up Friday, the tank is not from the bike (It was sale item from Stuart bray who though it was Enfield but it isn't but will do for the time being. Unfortunately the tank had been sold at Kempton as the seller didn't realise there was a bike for it....... Ron and Jan give me the info I needed and made a deal. Give it a start today and it run fine, but after a few starts later the kick start had no drive, had a look at the clutch and the drum was loose, I tightened it up and everything then seemed tight........ removed the whole clutch and the centre was badly worn and had been binding on the inner case, I had seen a post regarding something similar on here ? So need a new clutch centre, anyone know where ? All in all very happy, I'm not stripping it as yet, just slowly going over a few bits and sourcing some of the missing parts. its easier to store as is at present as I've still got the Matchless in four corners of the workshop.
