    Upcoming Auction

Does anyone know how much the Unipower made? Thanks Ed
  2. Spotted and overtook the sandy coloured Scammell Explorer & trailer that sold on ebay recently approaching Milton Keynes on the A5. Looked and sounded very nice with escort vehicle behind it. Ed
  3. I've just found a web page with two pictures of a Pioneer gun tractor being used by the German's to recover the remains of a downed mosquito. http://www.aircrewremembrancesociety.com/raf1943/3/polglasedavid.html Ed
  4. Superb work and sounds like the perfect outcome. Will be good to have another Antar up and running. Ed
  5. I heard recently that 2 or 3 of the ex-Billy Smarts circus Macks (I think NM's & NO's) were coming up for auction soon. Does anyone know anymore? Thanks Ed
  6. It does look very similar to one that was for sale earlier this year on ebay. Description was the same with issues with the lights and no back. Sold for about £4.5k. I'd say it is the same one so wonder why it is being relisted. Ed
  7. A very useful site for info on 1 ton landrovers is: http://900club.19.forumer.com/index.php The guy who runs it also runs a register of surviving 1 ton landrovers. Ed
  8. To help with the priming you could try a small header tank. Most of the oil pumps we run at work are a similar type and they all have a small tank to give a nice smooth flow of oil to the inlet. Ed
  9. A friend is looking for storage for his Landrover SWB that he is restoring. He is ideally looking for storage near to Hinckley but somewhere between Coventry and Leicester would be good. Let me know by PM if anyone knows of anything suitable and I can pass the details on to him. Thanks Ed
  10. That brings back a lot of memories. I missed my A level mock exams to go over for the 1994 Normandy tour. One of my lasting memories is riding on board the Morris C8P predictor through the Bayeux parade with my parents driving our friends Bedford MW behind. People were handing us drinks and food and the atmosphere was tremendous. Also gathering in one of the supermarche carparks before the parade and a couple of the tanks using the car jetwash to clean off the sand from the beach! If I remember correctly the Stuart was owned by an American and he brought it over by itself with no transporter. A lot of the tanks came over on one of the biggest cross channel ferries when they had removed some of the ballast first! The tanks on transporters (except the Stuart!) came through the french streets at about 2am in the morning. Apparently the sound of the Stuart woke a few people up! At some point I will dig out the photos I took at the time and put them up. I should have some of the vehicles from the MVT club coming to the camp site. They filled the largest cross channel ferry and I think there were somewhere in the region of 3-400 hundred World War II vehicles in convoy with motorbike outriders! Ed
  11. Hi all, Thanks for all the info and apologies for taking so long to reply. I tried Cherished Vehicles Insurance but they wouldn't insure one of them as it isn't road legal. Didn't think it would have an effect as I don't want to drive it on the road! Have just got off the phone to footman james and they are insuring all 3 for £115 and were quite happy with no chassis number on one and not being road legal. Very helpful and would recommend to anyone else. Thanks Ed
  12. Biodiesel affects modern fuel injection equipment (FIE) as much as older equipment. I know the FIE side of the TD5 very well and they will run reasonably well on biodiesel. But it does depend on the quality of the fuel, how well it is looked after and there are still some units that will not like it. Using biodiesel at the moment is still very hit and miss. We need some definite standards for things like lubricity, density etc...... There is still a lot of work going on with the fuel companies and the FIE suppliers as well as the car/truck manufacturers. Ed
  13. Morning all, We have 3/4 project vehicles at the moment and are due to take two of them out to different shows this year. In the past when I've only had one project vehicle I have used Footman James to insure it, think it was about £70 last time. Does anyone know of any other insurers who can do this type of insurance (off the road and public liability cover) and any who can do more than one on the same policy? Thanks Ed
  14. The one in your photo from Portsmouth 1989 is part of the Reme collection at Bordon. I remember seeing it there a few years ago. Don't think it had moved in a while but it was sitting there complete. In fact I think it might have moved over to their public museum in Arborfield. Around the late 80's early 90's I remember seeing this one and a number of other vehicles from the collection out at shows like Portsmouth, Battersea, Rushmoor etc..... Ed
  15. Just to clarify a few things to do with biodiesel. I've done a lot of work over the last few years looking at the effect of biodiesel on the fuel injection equipment on truck engines. The company I work for is one of the largest makers of heavy duty fuel injection systems. Most modern engines do not like 100% bio-diesel. Manufacturers will say that they warranty for B100 based on the odds that they won't have many back. Denso, Bosch & Delphi do not warranty for B100 for lots of good reasons! The biggest single reason is that B100 is completely undefined. It can be made from almost anything - rapeseed oil, chicken fat, stalks of plants, chip fat, algae etc...... Makes it very difficult for manufacturers to say yes you can use it! Biodiesel of all forms is more agressive on seals and the metal components. It has far lower lubricity than diesel and it is also organic so storage can cause lots of issues. As said earlier on this thread if you need to lay a vehicle up that has been running on biodiesel then you need to run a tank of diesel through to clean out the system before laying it up. If you don't you can find the injectors and pumps going rusty! All that in mind older engines in particular will run on bio-diesel. Best thing is to start off with a small percentage and build up. Also try and use the same source for bio-diesel. HTH Ed
  16. We are still looking but not having much luck at the moment. The yard we were looking at it was offered to us but it needed an awful lot of work and the owners were only prepared to give us a short lease. For the amount that needed to be invested it needed at least a 3 year lease to make it worthwhile. Will update on this thread if we find somewhere of interest. Regards Ed
  17. No problem, it was a fun morning. We only caused a little traffic and most people seemed to be fascinated by it! Top speed was a massive 13mph! Did set off a car alarm near the start of the journey and a few people stopping and staring as it went by! It does definitely need power steering, or just have an Adrian to assist in tight spots! Now if we can find an up and running gun tractor for me then it would give it some company!:-D Ed P.S. Did you get the photos I sent Jerry?
  18. Adrian, I did think it odd to have a nice surprise on the driving licence for once! Had to re-read a few times!:-D Regards Ed
  19. Hi Adrian, I've only ever taken the old standard car test and my licence has C1+E entitlement. With the new licence you need to go and do all the extra tests. Might be worth someone else who has recently renewed their licence checking their entitlements, mine might be an odd one!:-D Regards Ed
  20. Sorry to disagree/add to the above but I recently had my photocard licence through (change of address meant change from paper one) and category C1E now allows a heavier train weight if you are over 21. From the direct gov site and also in the leaflet that was with my licence: Category Description Minimum age C1 Vehicles weighing between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg 18* C1+E As category C1 but with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 12,000 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle 21*, **, Therefore you could go for a unimog with say a 6,000kg max weight and a trailer of 4,000kg behind it. HTH Regards Ed
  21. Used to be owned by Marian & John (can't remember their surnames!). Had been used by the BBC for outside broadcast. They sold it a couple of years ago and the new owners repainted it to normal military colours, seemed a shame. They now have an ex-argentinian g wagen as being a bit more user friendly. Regards Ed
  22. My other half rebuilt the engine for her imp in the living room. Presently we have one of her locos in pieces spread across the living room, she also has a workshop in one of the downstairs rooms with 2 lathes & a mill. Other rooms have mountain bikes, car bits, locos and a few rats. I do get the garage to myself though! We have both agreed that we need a smaller house and a bigger workshop or maybe a workshop with a living area in the corner!
  23. Hi Andy, No luck with finding storage yet but Adrian is starting to talk to the council to see if they can help. There seems to be a reasonable number of people who would like storage in this area. Just need to find somewhere that isn't a ridiculous price! Cheers Ed
  24. You can go straight for your HGV2 licence without having to do the 7.5 ton licence first. My brother did this about 2 years ago. The company he worked for would put the money up for the 7.5t licence and he asked if he paid the extra could he go straight in and do the HGV2 licence. HTH Ec
  25. Drat, thought ferrari was a safe bet!:banghead: :-) Knew to avoid porsche & lamborghini, next time I'll go for a 2CV!
