  1. The more the merrier. Always interesting to see any vehicle being restored. It probably spent more of it's life on the fairground than it did in the army. Regards Ed
  2. We have had a similar situation with one of our race cars. It has never been road registered and doesn't even have a chassis number. We have had it insured with Footman James as couldn't find anyone else at the time who could cover it. Haven't tried cherished vehicle for this sort of cover but we use them for all the other vehicles and they are very good. The other option is to see if Walker Midgley can help. We use them for our stationary steam engine. Cheers Ed
  3. It's pre 1960 so it's mot exempt. Also being pre 1960 you can drive it on your licence but it does need to be unloaded. For the tax you need to get it changed to historic tax class via the DVLA. Probably worth going to the local post office to tax it. Or you can try online and see how it comes up. Cheers Ed
  4. Hello John, I'm based in Hucclecote, although vehicles are a bit scattered. Unipower lives in Stonehouse with the Diamond T and the Scammell's live near Bristol. We popped over to Speech House without exhibits for a visit. Superb show and spent a happy few mins looking over your Diamond T. Looks like a very good project. Unusual in that it looks like it was rebuilt in 1955 but kept it's Hercules. We did think it probably hadn't come too far. What are your plans for it? Shame about the knock. The fact it's still got oil pressure might mean it's a little end or similar. When ever you are free drop me a line and I can arrange with Adrian to visit the T. Although I think Adrian will probably be in touch with you directly soon. He's always keen to speak to another local Diamond T owner. Cheers Ed
  5. Hello John, Not too far away from me. If you need to look at Diamond T 980 for any reference or help then our friend Adrian has a desert coloured 980 that lives in Stonehouse. Was your Diamond T at Speech House last weekend? Cheers Ed
  6. Hi and welcome, Which Diamond T do you have and whereabouts in the country are you? There is an active Diamond T group on facebook if you are on there. There are a couple of parts suppliers around so depending on which engine it is a replacement should be available. Cheers Ed
  7. Myself and some friends have vehicles stored in the Gloucestershire area, ranging from near Bristol up to Stonehouse near Stroud. Although sadly no more space at any of the locations for additional vehicles. But we would be interested in options for a group rental of a workshop/barn/building. One of our current storage locations is only going to be in place for another year. Cheers Ed
  8. Tucker Sno-cat with a one off body. Base vehicle was used a lot for arctic expeditions etc.... Ed
  9. Axles are in high demand from the Landrover off road guys. Fairly easy to fit and make a big difference. There is a website called House of Flying Spanners which can probably help with finding parts. They have run the axles on a number of vehicles and sorted out upgraded parts from them. Worth asking on the forum there. They normally know the best sources and are very helpful. HTH Ed
  10. Assuming it was an orange truck on the front it was heading to Crouch's. Ed
  11. I think a lot is down to what you are trying to sell and what people are after. For instance at the moment there is high demand for Scammell Explorer's. Rare to see one up for sale for more than 48 hrs. Same for timber tractors. Why the demand is there for those and not for other vehicles I don't know. Some is probably due to people always having wanted one and some is probably due to seeing a number of good examples on the rally field. I do think a lot of it comes down to what you see around and what they are doing. A lot of civvy stuff is going for good prices at the moment and still going up so the money is out there. But I have seen a lot of military stuff up for some high prices and maybe that puts people off the whole market. Ed
  12. There is no age limit on the trailer it is only the tow vehicle that has to be pre 1960. Ed
  13. So long as the caravan is unloaded then yes you can tow it behind the matador. Just don't try and define what is a load in a caravan. Ed
  14. I changed insurer for my renewal and have 4 vehicles on my policy. Any driver over 25 can drive them at my discretion and one of the vehicles on the policy is insured by me but not owned by me. So it is possible. It is well worth ringing round as I gained a lot and at the same time I'm paying a lot less. Ed

    Pioneer

DEA768 could well be the original registration when it was sold in to civvy street. You should be able to find out from the DVLA when it was issued. That hopefully will then give you an idea as to when it left the military. Ed

    Pioneer

Chassis no. 5343 Military H no. 5545293 Order no. S3164 Order date 30/4/1943 It would have been built after the order date so probably some time in 1944 or even into the start of 1945. There were a lot more Pioneer's built and supplied after this. My recovery is chassis no. 5961 and was not ordered until 1945. For interest the first SV2S were built 1939. If your Pioneer stayed in service after the war then it may well have been rebuilt. If it was there is normally a rebuild plate on the chassis near the chassis number. Also it may have been given a post war military registration of the format two letters two numbers two letters. Hope that helps. Ed

    Pioneer

Are you sure it's 1934? Also what type of pioneer is it? If you can put up the chassis number I should be able to give you it's original military number and what contract it was built on. Chassis number is stamped into the chassis on the passenger side towards the front. Regards Ed
  18. There was a Centurion BARV for sale recently on here. I think that would make a unique and interesting vehicle for a museum. It is also worth thinking about taking vehicles on loan. Storage of vehicles is quite often a problem for owners and I'm sure many would consider having their vehicles on display in exchange for storage. I know it is something that I would consider for some of my vehicles. Ed
  19. I have just renewed 4 of my vehicles. I was previously with FJ but have now gone to Cherished Vehicle Insurance. A lot cheaper, higher mileage allowance and any driver over 25. Very helpful and knew what the vehicles were and seemed genuinely interested. Ed
  20. Welcome. I noticed in one of your other posts that you are in Gloucestershire. Whereabouts in Gloucestershire are you? Myself and a friend have a couple of vehicles and always happy to help out any other made owners in the area. Ed
  21. Which civvy one is it? The highest price paid for a pioneer in recent years was for a civvy one. Around £10k for a good one is the right ball park. If it has all the recovery kit and in particular the tracks you can head towards £15k. All depends how quickly the owner wants to get rid of it. Ed

    Goodwood revival

That would be Brian and Christine Carter. Brian is on HMVF as Dewrance. Cheers Ed
  23. Hi, Welcome to the forum and superb choice of vehicle! Can you put a few details and a photo or two up of it? Always interested to see the different ones and the variations. The colour is normally Deep Bronze Green if it is a very early one (1938 and earlier I think). Later ones are olive drab I think. One of the experts I'm sure will be along to give a definitive answer. Also there are a couple of different camouflage schemes that they ran with. Cheers Ed
  24. 5343 makes sense as a chassis number. Would fit with contract S3164 for 450 SV/2S Pioneers (starting at 4922). There was an order for TRMU30's at around the same chassis number so not sure how the split works out. Contract date 30/04/1943 but yours was probably not built until some time in 1944. The number painted on the side should be something like H5545479. The build plate is only there for ones that were kept after the war and rebuild by the REME workshops. Cheers Ed
