Hi Guys just had some interest from a guy that wants to buy my C8.

If it was still up & running I would of valued it at £8000-£10,000 ? but a bigend has gone & I'm not too well at the moment & I have to many other vehicles to look after & restore.

What would you pay for it ? value at ? ball park figure.

Ian to give you an idea of repair costs we would charge £15-£20 per journal depending on width to regrind a crankshaft plus the cost of new shells subject of course to the inevitable VAT.

As you know Ian British, and for that matter Canadian trucks, can be difficult to gauge a realistic asking price for them, they are not everyone's cup of tea. Having said that if your C8 was A1 mechanically and with good paint work, good tires, canvass etc somewhere around the £8.5k to £10k mark I would suggest as the ball park price. With a dodgy crank and white metal cast bearings there is obviously a cost to take into account.

It's a number of years since I had any white metal casting and line boring done (the last was a Chev engine about 10 years ago) The real issue is what damage has been done to the crank, is it just a regrind one size down or will it need metal spraying and rebuilding.

I think that's where the unknown cost lies in your case. If it was me buying I'd want to see at least £1K off market price to cover potential work and possibly a tad more by the time transport to and from a specialist machine shop is taken into account.

But as we all know (and most of us have been there at one time or another) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... so my advise for what it's worth.......... would be set a fair price and be prepared to deal :cool2:

When a big end bearing knocks out, there has to be a reason, often low oil pressure, which could be due to worn mains, the oil for big ends passing from mains. It has to be factored in that crank will likely be worn or oval and it is not just a matter of re-metalling one big end.

Yes that can be the problem! All the things that come to light once you strip the engine. My own 6 cyl MCC engine was running fine but with very low oil pressure. By the time the engineer shop had finished, I'd had a rebore and new pistons, small ends, white metal to mains and big ends and reground crank, new valves, guides and springs with hardened seats, hard chrome to the worn camshaft bearings etc, etc, etc. Total cost was 5 grand and that was 14 years ago. That's the bit that concerns me but in this case the engine still has good oil pressure even with the knocking, anyway I don't intend to do a rebuild that's for the next owner.

Hi Pete good to hear from you, looks like were in the same ball park over its value before the engine problem, I do have an attentive offer of £6,500 with all the spares but if there's anybody that's on the forum that's interested 1st please PM me.
