Jill and I are coming to visit your lovely country in mid May 2009. We are going straight to France for the 65 anniverary of D-Day and then visiting the battle fields of France and Belgium.. We may go to Holland to see a "Bridge Too Far" as well.

We will be going to War and Peace at Beltring and then to The Albion Owners Rally at Biggar in Scotland. After that we are going to The Great Dorset Steam Fair. and will be returning to Australia mid September.

We would like to catch up with as many of you as possible whilst we are over there.

Please feel free to advise us as to where we should visit during our stay.

This pic is of our 1916 Albion A10.

Thanks Rick and Jill.

We'll have a decent gathering at Beltring, so come and have a cup of tea, or something colder, with us.

It's difficult to recommend what to do on the WW1 battlefields aspect because there is so much. But obviously, when you are on the Somme you will find yourself in Villers-Bretonneux, Le Hamel and up to Pozieres. All essential. The Tommy cafe in Pozieres is a bit of a dump, but seems to lure Aussie parties. Better off having a cuppa with Teddy and Phoebe at the Ulster Tower which is mid-way(ish) between Thiepval and Newfoundland mem park on a straight-ish rd from Pozieres. BTW, the 1st Aus Div memorial and Gibralter are at the opposite end of the village to the Windmill, which is opposite the Tank Corps memorial. Blue sky days make the place great. You'll pass Moo Cow farm en route to Thiepval. Very special.

I haven't been to Fromelles, which is still big news.

If you have time, get on the Vimy Ridge website and arrange a tunnel tour

and if in Arras do the same, the Waterloo tunnels cost five.fifty eruo a head. I'm doing them this weekend.

As said, there is so much - but you must not miss the Menin Gate. Ypres is a glorious place to stay (Arianne and Novotel are fine). Great atmosphere - good grub/beer and very appreciative people (mainly - some tossers about).

Don't forget Avril Williams's Ocen Villas Tea Room. Near the Newfoundland Memorial park at Auchonvilliers. Just down from Thiepval. But make a point to get at least a day round Ieperes.

If you venture into Holland for the Bridge Too Far, you might wish to consider driving a little further to visit the museum at Overloon (see elsewhere on here). Even if U.S. vehicles don't 'float your boat' you'll be blown away by the quality of the displays :coffee:

(Having just looked at your list of toys, I really don't think you'll be disappointed!)

And if you decide to do that, you might just find this hotel http://www.hamert.nl very convenient as an overnight stop - a delightful quiet riverside location with excellent Dutch "tucker" :) Enjoy your trip!

Spoil yourselves with a riverside room, ground floor!

Thank you for your suggestions sofar. We will be pretty flexible and will be at Beltring for W&P. Richard Farrant has been his usual very helpful self and we will be with his group there. Hope to catch up with Tim Gosling and a few more. Duxford has been on my list but I think we might still be in Europe on June 21st.

We had been going to take part in the Aussie/NZ 'Greece to Normandy Trek' in our 1940 Chev Staff Car, but they head back to Oz. too soon for us and we didn't want to have to worry about any problems which might have shown their ugly hand. With this in mind, we have hired a motorhome for our transport and accomodation. We are going across to France on the same ferry as both the MVT and IMVPS(?).

Regards Rick and Jill.
