6 X 6 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 This 15' 4" curtain side trailer was driven under a 14' bridge. The impact left the entire roof and rear doors lying on the road under the bridge. As you can see, the trailer bed frame was bent as was the chassis of the tractor unit, a fairly new MAN. Both bridge, and trailer heights, were clearly marked in both metric and imperial. The Polish driver is now looking for another job. Hopefully one back in Poland. Quote
radiomike7 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 We too have had our share of incidents with the Poles, one runaway in the yard that destroyed a new Daf 85 cab and one trying to do a U turn in a narrow village that resulted in the demolition of a grade 2 listed dovecote. They were both sacked and were last seen holding up telephone cables 24/7. Quote
Tony B Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 In the bus world they don't care if you rape the cat and kick the wife, but DO NOT under ANY circumstances hit a bridge!! The cost starts at £500,000 and keeps going up. Worth remembering with some military vehicles, even a 101 ambulance is as high as a single decker bus, and there are lower bridges about. QLR go fourteen feet. All low bridges are clearly marked, anything under 16 foot 6 inch. However no b**r thought about tress and hedges big leafy things that hide signs. If in doubt stop BEFORE bridge get out and have a good look. If still in doubt , go some other way. One of the joys of Sat Nav, they don't nessacarily take into account width and height restrictions. There is a Trucker's road Atlas that marks them. Large Vehicle owners remember, hitting bridges make insurance VEEEEERY difficult to re-new. Quote
