Paint scheme for EW landy!

John H

Question

Hello everyone, I own a 1984 series 3 ffr which served in the 14th signal reg,640 sig tp(EW). It needs painting but havent a clue about colour or markings. I would also like to know where it could have been so it can be painted to some relevance.

I co-own the vehicle whith my mate Chris and neither of us have any military knowlege whatsoever:??? :???, so any info or pics at all about this type of landy would be much appreciated!

John,

Your Land Rover would have left the factory and spent most of, if not all, of its life painted Nato green, so that would be a good start. No idea if it would have had a black or sand disruptive pattern on top, but I would get it rubbed down and painted matt nato green before worrying too much about markings etc.

just looked at the EMLRA website, think it will be very usefull. cheers mate!

Hi Chris, yes we was thinking of painting it green as a start, but there ividence of green, brown/ green, and sand colour. also buckets of sand fall from everywhere whilst doing various work, which makes us think sand as a base colour????

John,

If you get the history card from the EMLRA then that will hopefully show you where it was when. It wouldn't have been painted brown, but may have been out in the Gulf in 1991 so may have been sand then.

I got FMW to do the reserch for me and obtain the history card. it started with the 640 sig tp (EW) in 1984 then sent to REME for an upgrade or repair and retuned to 640 13/08/85. the vehicle moved to 237 Squadron in November 1994 and struck off end of 97.

I think this is right as i am awaiting the full report but i understand it will be hard to find out any more info like where its been or what it was fitted out with.
