Tony B
thought about cutting a bit of armour off but then again she wont be original, have spoke to a local engeneering firm, and thay are looking into it, failing that , she will be put on a lowloader and the guy i bought it from will be taking it back, i shook his hand and took the word of a gentleman but honesty has run out of this once graet country, its a real shame, theres a lot of real nice guys out there, but i met a wrong one and basically lied, both axels are knackerd,. damn expensive, legal action isnt an option. Seriously if it was wrongly described. Small claims court is a viable option.

fv1609
Thanks Clive, looks like i can make it then, how about you?sounds interesting : I want go with the pig. But normally, unless something is very local, if it is just a one day event it is not fuel/effort effective. But this is not a one-day show it is an afternoon show. So I might go in the Rover, which is not really very interesting. But I have no doubt that the establishment itself will be exceedingly interesting. I always like shows at establishments, sometimes years later you look back at the photos & see quite common place vehicles are collectors items. At least the markings & accessories will be authentic reference points so even like to take pictures of the mundane, which once caused me to be ejected from a site as the authorities couldn't believe anyone would take an interest in mundane in service equipment. flyingp
hi gents, well military police day was graet, glad clive took his truck as i was able to have a good look and pick his brains, well worth the effort, my truck made it up some big hills and the axal held out, but bit the dust finally on the way home. there was a big bang and she limped home slowly, with a bit of help from my jeep, 4litres pulled her which suprised me, so now the plan is replace that rear axal
AndyFowler
Sorry to hear your axle has died mate , she looks the business I've never seen a flying Pig with that prototype barricade remover in the flesh so shes well worth saving in my opinion ! flyingp
hi all well i dont think she was a flying pig in her service days , the wings were added at a later stag , it had one wing in the film bloody sunday, so i think she was a barricade remover, but as you can see she still needs a lot of work but its all there, and she will be saved, well i will do my best

fv1609
What mark is it,clive gave me a lecture on sunday but i forgot.:n00b: It is as described. I know the seller so I assume it is in NI. This must be 31 BK 80 as it is the only flying pig ending BK 80. It was struck off to J.Hirst & Son, St Marybourne, Hants on 17/8/95. fv1609
Clive,The pig is on activearmour's website the reg is 26 BK 80. Oh that's interesting. Looking at two sources of info neither identify it as a Flyer. The Asset Code for a Flyer Mk 2 is 1780-2501 But 26 BK 80 Asset Code is 1760-4100 so that doesn't tally. It looks in original condition without any obvious owner's embellishments so may well be genuine. The problem is the EMER for wings was issued in Jan 1976. 30 Pigs were to be winged up & these were completed on 23/7/76. But I have identified 40 pigs that have been winged up. My figure of 30 is from trawling the records of them all, so there must be some under recording. Now of all the Asset Codes for Humbers. I do not know what 1760-4100 is for. Could it be the Code for a solid winged pig? These of course came later as petrol & acid could penetrate the mesh screens. I had assumed they were conversions of existing flyers. So I need to look at the ERMs of the known solid flyer & see if they turn up the same Asset Code, but it all takes time!
Adam Elsdon
Found this at the RLC museum website, they are restoring it and hope to have it ready and presented in time for 2009 and the 40th anniversary of the start of troubles in Northern Ireland. http://www.rlcmuseumfriends.com/userimages/035.JPG 32BK92
fv1609
Adam that was a nice large image. 32 BK 92 used to be on static display at a base in NI. Hopefully it will get its Kremlin protection back on again. Glad to see that it is being preserved, but doesn't really fit in with the anniversary as Mk 2 pigs were not around in 1969. They appeared between Sept 1972 to June 1973. Would be nicer to see a Mk 1 with barbed wire on the roof with wooden ladders & sandbags to mark the anniversary of the start of Op Banner. Slight paradox in that 32 BK 90 was one of the last Pigs to be made, but mixed up in the range 32 BK 58 to 32 BK 99 were 20 of the first to be made ie the prototype Pigs (FV1609) - if that makes sense. Adam Elsdon
 Clive, have you any clear pictures of an early N.I. Pig as described, i am in two minds what to do with my own pig at the moment for next season, and to tidy it up externally, so an early N.I. treatment could fit the bill. fv1609
Adam Have a browse through here: http://cain.ulst.ac.uk/melaugh/images.htm You need to peep into all the galleries, also quite good for early Rover & Saracen. The CAIN site itself is worthy of a sort through generally.
fv1609
Mk 1 with barbed wire on roof, sandbags on wing & mesh windscreen guard. I have very detailed pics of the windscreen mesh as I copied one for mine.
