pop larkin
Hi guys. My uncle is looking to buy a 1942 WC51 which has spent its life in France. As a result it has not been previously registered in the UK. Can someone please tell me what is involved in registering a vehicle for the first time. Many thanks. 0 TooTallMike
If it's been registered in Froggyland it should come with a carte grise ('grey card' - V5 equivalent). If you have that it can be a relatively simple paperwork exercise, depending on how sensible your local VRO staff are

0 N.O.S.
The main thing is to get an approximate date of manufacture, from a body recognised by DVLA. You may well need a valuation , again from a recognised body, for insurance purposes. The easiest way to do both of these is via your area MV group, who should have a person appointed for this task. Often they can do this by photographs, which makes life easier. There may be a nominal fee, but it goes to a good cause!! You might also need to get the vehicle weighed, £5 at a nearby public weighbridge (lots about). This is how I go about it. Tony
0 pop larkin
Thanks guys. Will pass on all relevant info to my uncle. We are both members of the MVT and our active within our local club, so should be able to get it sorted :-)
0 Tony B
The Dodge forum has a link to chassis numbers and date of production. The Walter P Chrysler musuem can give you a copy of the build sheet which will have date of manufacture.

0 Tony B
http://forum.ww2dodge.com/index.php Chassis number should be right hand side front , near spring. Post it I'll see what I've got.
0 pop larkin
Hi Tony thanks, will have a look around the forum. He hasn't got the truck yet, but will see if he has got any more info about it.
0 Tony B
The French used a lot of them, including the forign Legion, so the possibility for a diffrent set of markings exists. I know a couple in France in FFL markings. Most likley the vehicle had a make over at Hotchkiss. Replica English data plates are available. I have a partial list of chassis numbers.
