Poptopshed Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 While most of the people spent newyears day recovering from hangovers the Militant Men set out for a bit of recovery work. A friend of ours has had a bit of bad luck and the Stalwart and 432 he owns had both been attacked by vandals and needed them moving to a secure location for repairs. Simon managed to get the Bedford TM stuck just driving onto the site towing Grumpys trailer but it shows just how wet and muddy it was and how heavy the trailer is. Once he was pulled out to firmer ground we set about getting the Stolly and 432 to a point for loading. We had a sorry looking flatfooted Stolly... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0001.jpg[/img] and a toasted 432... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0002.jpg[/img] The Stolly is drivable and as the tyres are scrap anyway it was decided to drive it as it was . It was fine on the muddy field in straight lines but horrible once it was steered as the rubber moved under the rims and it became a bit unpredicable as to where it was heading next. :schocked: While messing about with the Stolly he managed to get the fire damaged 432 running and drove that to the other field for loading. The interior has been gutted and you can see heat damage on the outside but it still ran and drove like normal. As the ground was so soft we had to load on the road and while the 432 still ran we got that on first. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0006.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0008.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0005.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0009.jpg[/img] With the Militants crane for a gentle tug she drove on the trailer fine. It was getting dark once we got back again for the Stolly and due to the flat tyres it was a nightmare to line up and keep it straight onto the trailer. In the end we had to leave it overnight as it was unsafe to carry on. Grumpy and Simon went back today with a spare set of wheels and it loaded fine. Simon has more pictures to add later and i have put a short clip of the 432 driving on HMVF Tv. Jon. Quote
Mark Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Nice but sad pictures, were the vehicles not locked up in any way then, I can understand the tyres but not the fire in the 432, how did they get in ?? Quote
Poptopshed Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 They both had padlocks on the hatches but they had been smashed off to get in. We left the one guy there to clean up mud on the road while we dropped off the 432 and he caught two young lads messing with Stolly in the field which was only 200 yards away. Quote
abn deuce Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 No hope of any insurance coverage for any of the damage ? :dunno: At first glance did they destroy anything that cant be replaced ?Really saddening to see this happen to anyone I feel for him ......think how it could have been mine just as easy. ChrisPWRR Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 What happened to the 2 scum bags that your friend caught? Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Hopefully he buried their remains deep enough not to infect the surface soil!!! Quote
Poptopshed Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 The police took them away, quite funny as we were trying to load a flat tired unregistered Stolly with no lights on public road. oops. :police: Quote
NigeP Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Are thos the 2 vehicles from the just outside the Sutton Coldfield off road site? It was a bloody shame what happened to them. Nige Quote
Poptopshed Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 Nige, Yep they are the ones. They had moved sites to one in Kingsbury. Quote
NigeP Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Wish I'd have known, I'd have popped over and given you a hand. I knew they'd moved to Kingsbury. I haven't had chance to try out the new place yet. The 432 pulled the front bumper off my mates Land Rover. Oh how we laughed :-D Nige Quote

Tony B Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Hopefully he buried their remains deep enough not to infect the surface soil!!! 'I'm sorry officer, I panicked when confronted them and lost control of the 432. I then wanted to make sure they were all right so I reversed to have a look at them. When I couldn't see them I went forward again to make sure they weren't in the way. Oh yes description they are both about 80 feet long by 20 feet wide. I couldn't see them hidden in the ruts. :naughty: Quote
