Rick W
Did the British army ever use jeeps in the desert circa 1942? Apart from LRDG, Ive never seen any photos? Anyone point me to any examples or colour photos?

Rick W
Thanks Radek. Were they painted sand colour, looks like they were. Have you got an idea of the date of those photos?
AlienFTM
Thanks Radek. Were they painted sand colour, looks like they were. Have you got an idea of the date of those photos? I tried googling for 39 (present in the name of each picture) and Lt Gen Moorshead. Easing the search to "Gen Moorshead" I eventually got to this: http://boards.historychannel.com/thread.jspa?threadID=300003251&messageID=300049631 on the History Channel website (see Jack, History Channel even has a website ;o) It includes the line: Rommel couldn't take Tobruk off Gen Moorshead and his Australian 9th Division, even after 8 months of trying. That same Division was one of the main reasons he got a hiding at El Alamain. Not much help but the best I could get.
Nick Johns
Some of the original batch of 50 BRC 40 Bantams, forerunner to the MB/GPW supplied in 1941 to the British Army were used in the western desert. The Bantam recently for sale on milweb was claimed to be the oldest combat Jeep in the world having been a survivor of those used
