Wet weather gear on a Dodge Weapons Carrier

Did they make wet weather gear for Dodge Weapons Carriers in WW2, as I have never seen any photos of Weapons Carriers with this gear fitted?

 

Obviously these vehicles had a tilt but what was used to protect the driver and passenger side openings?

 

Anyone got any photos?

I think thats about the same as the open cab Diamond T trucks they had half door lowers only .

a bit off this topic but I think in the American WW2 vehicle group only the staff cars,the Dodge ambulance's and perhaps the Dodge Command cars had heaters as standard equipment , perhaps other know if that's correct or if there were others .

No idea on the Canadian or British Military <perhaps also only ambulances and staff and command cars>

Real Men didn't need such extras as doors and heaters?

 

The British Ford WOA2 utility staff car did not have a heater, but it does have doors and windows.

I came across this original WW2 picture of a Dodge WC and it clearly sports some kind of side doors.

Only that it's taken during the winter of 1944-45, probably somewhere around the Battle of the Bulge area.

I think you will find that the door in the picture is off a WC 64 KD Dodge ambulance, as it is the same as we have made for customers with this vehicle. I expect some quick thinking GI nicked it to protect himself from the cold weather.

Being resourceful , having a need and finding a solution something soldiers are good at . Great photo never seen another like it . Wonder how many others are still unpublished in old scrap books kept by Veterans . Speaking of that I will look for some I was given .

Here's another practical use of a rear tarpaulin from a Dodge WC:

 

"Pitch a tent, Sarge?" "Naahh, we'll just jank the rear tarp off our Beep"

I had Norwegian doors on the WC52 worked great except for the doorhandle on the inside.

I hit my arm on it...bloody painful. So took the hadle of and used a rubber band like trucks use on their tarp. Worked OK.

 

(Or get a Dodge Ambulance, Carryall or Command car....)

The joy of a WC is if you can just roll the sides up and take front section in back. I drove like that in Normandy a couple of years ago, absolutley stinking hot, trouble was sunburnt arms for a week.
