ji2611
We have a vintage US flying jacket and unfortunately the zip has broken...does anyone know where we could buy an authentic vintage brass zip ?
john1950
Start with your local shop that does clothes alterations.
ji2611
Thanks for your reply however we were hoping to be able to get an authentic zip as the jacket is wartime not the modern nylon equivalent which is all the alteration shops can offer. john1950
You wold be surprised just what some of these people can find. It costs nothing to ask.
Mk3iain
Just a thought but how about companies that make the RAF ww2 style flying jackets, they might be able to help with a reasonable version. Or at least point you in the right direction... Eaglehurst
What is the length and manufacturer of the broken zipper? I have a box of older pattern zippers that I can take a look through...
ji2611
thanks for your reply, the zip is 22 inches long and manufacturer on the existing zip is AMC , jacket is Webber.
Eaglehurst
Sadly - I don't have anything that will pass for that. Might be mistaken but looks like a British air ministry zipper on a US air force jacket...
ji2611
Thanks very much for trying ! Yes somebody else said it looked like a British zip on the jacket so it has maybe been replaced at sometime…so anything that is authentic would be fine it doesn’t have to be the same as this….it is no use without a working zip but we don’t want to fit a modern zip. ltwtbarmy
Hi there. I looked at the label, and although it looks like Webber, it seems that the maker’s name is Werber. Anyway, looked it up, and looks like that it needs a Talon zipper, probably like this one- https://www.noble-house.eu/en/accessories/talon-zip-ww2-repro-brown-5-mm.html Edited February 22, 2023 by ltwtbarmy
Eaglehurst
Also worth keeping an eye on ebay...
