Meekumslr
Hello all, God willing, the Austin K5 will be on the road for 2024 Arnhem and possibly D Day. A group of friends want to travel as XXX Corps attached to RAMC. Firstly, would this have been likely with a GS lorry and if so, what insignia should be displayed on the vehicle front? I know XXX Corps would be a Boar but the RAMC plate? Or would the truck still be RASC but transporting RAMC kit and supplies? Many thanks, Neil.
0 Adrian Barrell
Generally, vehicles didn't carry corps markings but rather unit code signs and formation signs such as division and occasionally brigade. There were some units attached at corps level which might have used the corps sign.
0 79x100
A Corps establishment included a Field Dressing Station, Field Hygiene Section and a Casualty Clearing Station but the Casualty Clearing Stations were removed from corps control during the autumn of 1944. They seem to have been equipped with 4x2 lorries. The old Trux Models lists show that the Field Ambulance attached to infantry divisions (one per brigade) had Three-ton 4x2 GS lorries but the Light Field Ambulance attached to an armoured brigade had 7x Three-ton 4x4 GS lorries. This would seem to imply that within XXX Corps, any 4x4 RAMC three-tonners would have been marked as Guards Armoured Divison with an arm of service serial of 89 or 90 on a black background depending on the brigade that they were attached to. 0 REME 245
If you are talking about the major Market Garden Tour in 2024 some participants also badge to the 43rd Wessex Division who were the follow up division to the Guards Armoured during the operation. See https://www.ltf-hq.com/ for the organiser's website. I think the trip is fully booked but maybe some places will free up by september 2024
0 Rootes75
Its a shame its fully booked. It does look very interesting but also reading the registration form its no under 18s and both our boys who reenact with us would be under that in 2024. 0 REME 245
A lot of people specultively book vehicles on the tour in the hope they will be ready in time so they may have reserves list, but it is a Living History Tour so you are expected to wear accurate uniform at all times and use period tents. In theroy also no long hair, beards or modern glasses etc.

Hello all,
God willing, the Austin K5 will be on the road for 2024 Arnhem and possibly D Day.

I know XXX Corps would be a Boar but the RAMC plate?
