Hi Alan,

If you are lucky and the box came over post war it may have an MoS id plate fitted somewhere,

IMG_6945.thumb.jpg.82e0d2109ae977212e95ace845c15a15.jpgFrame.jpg.db8794612992e037044c1a08d2aae28f.thumb.jpg.9419fad80d8443fc7f5a19ca32f14f10.jpg

for aussie records they use the engine number, but this as you would appreciate can be a long shot.

the axle sounds a bit serious.is the wheel off in the picture?

I have to ask do you have any Austin Truck parts about,

i am looking for some bonnet side covers.

8 louvers.

Rupert,

I don't know of any Austin Truck parts in the South West or Central West of Qld. There was a property near Blackall that used to use Morris commercials. Most Austin Truck in that area were later models, 1960's etc.

I'll have a look at the plates on the Humber when I get back up there.

Alan.

If the original Humber in this thread is to be restored back to its 8cwt configuration, it will need the same body as my Morris. I took just about every measurement from my original body for a Canadian guy who converted them into proper drawings. I've also collected as much info as I can on the wireless set up.  Ron

Thanks, I think I will leave it as a woodie. It looks great and more useful for normal transport. I will leave the PTO and dynamo in place and if somebody wants to restore it in the future it's always an option. The more I take it apart the more I think it was on the cusp of being scrapped, there's a lot of work, a lot of parts required, I'll get there but don't hold your breath it could take a while.

Hi Alan,

You can do a chassis no search on the Royal Logistics Corps web site,

that may bring something up I will look though what I have(very little),

what I found Humber utility 4x4 contract date 1940,(should be 1942)

WD no. (maybe) M4380025.

Also for that engine number,

Humber 4x4 imported from Japan to New Zealand,

Waikato district 1988.

If it has an 1949 ERM plate then you will have better luck.,

Example.

the words Ministry of Supply at the top

WD no,   51 RC 72

chassis no. 20778

Hi Rupert,

The contract date you quote for this Humber is incorrect. Rootes received an enquiry from Ministry of Supply on 13th Feb. 1940, but the actual date  of contract was 8th Jan. 1942. This info is straight from a Rootes document of all contract over the WW2 period.

Hi Alan,

Well you have to bite the bullet here, I have some chassis number searches in with them, and I am still waiting for a results more than a year now.

so if they have the information,  its a bit of luck.

just look at it as a few schooners, I have spent a lot of money(thousands pounds) and I am no further forward, with our ambos research although I think I have become a bit obsessive.

the truth is out there.(so I still believe).
