Rlangham
Cheers - we'll be at War and Peace all week, four of us are going down on Tuesday sometime and we'll probably have the same sort of 'show and tell' display as pictured as during the week we'll be short on manpower so won't have time and enough bods to dig a trench etc, but either way we have plenty of British kit to have a look at, when it comes to British infantry kit, if a soldier wore/carried/was armed with it in NW Europe 44-45, we've got it! LeeEnfield
Ref the Seahorse Insignia shown above; I'm thinking its of the 27th Armoured Brig. (seahorse representing the amphib role this unit was engaged in,....being equiped, for Dday with duplex drive (swimming) sherman tanks. Great Pics,......thanks. John Pearson
My Dingo markings are for 27 armoured brigade, after it was separated from 79 Armoured division. The other markings (white 51 on red square) denote the senior Regiment in the brigade which was 13/18 hussars and relate only to around the D Day and Normandy campaign period. On D Day, two squadrons had DD shermans and two squadrons (one HQ squadron) had normal shermans with wading trunking. The Dingo is marked with the hollow red diamond denoting that it is from Regimental Headquarters Squadron, the most likely location of the Dingo vehicle in the inventory. By the way, the weather at Quorn was bl**dy awful friday and saturday. On the friday afternoon I had two inches of water INSIDE my tent! Rlangham
Thanks for that John - saw you around but was busy almost non stop this weekend. I was on the site from 10am Friday, luckily a few others from the group turned up later on and we managed to get a tent up about twenty minutes before the rain started! John Pearson
Where the title came from I have no idea! It is 100 years since the Boy Scouts were formed at a first camp on Brownsea island at Poole and there were a few people at the event dressed like Baden Powell but the link beat me entirely! The event was held at the preserved Great Central Railway. My tank and Dingo were at Quorn, by Loughborough in Leicestershire, one of the 4 stations on the line although there were displays at each station..
