0 MiketheBike
Brian, its hard to change, because it weighs a flippin ton. I got the spare back up onto mine, but I nearly had a prolapse doing it, but I'm not reknowned for my superhuman strength! I got the tyre fitters up the road here to change a tube for me as I had heard getting the rim apart and tyre off can be a difficult job. Next time I will give it a go though. 0 berni
we have got run flats on the bedford & they weigh over 13 stone each we cheated & paid a mutual friend who works for motorway tyres to come & change all the tyres, he charged 20.00 per tyre & was done in about an hour or so i know it wasn't as much fun as doing it ourselves but it was so much less hassle & saved a few knuckles in the process berni
0 brh
Wikipedia quotes three types of run-flat tyres: 1) Self sealing 2) Self supporting and 3) Auxilliary supporting. I assume from the age of the Ferrets that number 3 is the system used on their wheels. Is that so? Brian
0 sirhc
Brian, The Dunlop Trak Grip tyres used on Ferrets have a very thick sidewall, which supports the weight of the vehicle when the tyre loses pressure. They weigh 55kg each, I know because I just sent one to someone! Any 9.00 x 16 tyre will do the job, I have some Continental pattern tyres on mine. Changing the tyres isn't too hard, if you have the right equipment. Unfortunatley I got 2 punctures on the way to Kemble last year, and had to put new tubes in! Luckily I borrowed some tools and a Scammel Explorer and the job didn't take too long! I suggest you read anything Ferret related on Dougs website, then join the Ferret-Heaven group on Yahoo. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-heaven/ This is a mailing list with 395 members, there is an extensive message archive with answers to almost any question you can think of.
