Rauceby War Years Weekend 2013

August 24th,25th 26th 2013

Looking for somewhere to go this Bank Holiday Weekend? Then look no further. Travel back in time to see & hear what your parents, Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents did:

The Mid Lincs MVT is holding their 5th War Years weekend on the above date this year. We are a non - profit making event so any monies raised after expenses will go to the charities: Air Ambulance, Royal British Legion and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Please visit our website www.raucebywarweekend.co.uk to have a look at what it’s all about, It is also to help keep people informed or you can phone 01529 488354 or 07713074418 to get further advice. We have a large marquee booked to hold a 1940’s Victory Ball for three hundred people on Saturday night with the Ashby Big Band and supported by Paul & Natasha Harper, Paul being an ENSA entertainer and all backed by Music hosts Wing & a Prayer. This is a ticket only dance. Tickets are £12. The entertainment on Friday and Sunday night is free. The marquee will also be used for various demonstrations like fashion shows, hair demonstrations (have your hair done 40’s style for the evening dance), and dancing etc.

We will be having living history displays, re-enactors (people promenading in all sorts of different uniforms), and a large selection of military vehicles and classic cars with various stall holders Military & Civilian selling their wares to keep the public entertained. We are also having an arena where we will be having a staged battle each day (can be quite noisy), Vehicle parades (Military & Classic cars), Military band playing and demonstrations involving the public. We also have the Battle of Britain memorial flight doing a flypast with the Dakota on 24th,Spitfire & Hurrican on 25th, Dakota, Spitfire & Hurrican on 26th (All weather permitting). We have plenty of entertainment for the children with an old fashioned funfair, Paintball Arena and some participation events for them to join in like Grenade throwing and rifle cum boot camp drill.

There is plenty of food sold on site with a NAFFI selling homemade wartime type sandwiches and cakes (unfortunately not 1940’s prices). There is also a bar selling real ales amongst other drinks to help quench your thirst. If you purchase a ticket for the Saturday night you have the chance to purchase real Ale at wartime price of 6d/pint (must produce 6 old pennies).

Come along to SEE, FEEL, SMELL & HEAR as well as talk to the living history display personel to get a feeling as to what it was like. The Entry fee is £5/person/day with children who are 12 and under going free. Veterans, MVT Members and all car parking is free. We have plenty of camping for tents, caravans, and

motor homes (Must be pre-booked. £4/night or £10 Max for 3 or 4 nights. You will also have to purchase your day tickets).Where else can you get all this entertainment for just £5. You can pre book your tickets and get them at £4/person/day with either a two day or three day pass. This is all educational to school children as they learn about WW2 at school. So, dig out your outfits from the loft, get dressed up and come and be part of this grand event and help raise for the above charities whilst having fun. Once you have been to one you will want to attend more. I hope that you can support us in some way.

Less than two weeks now ladies and gents!

Tickets for the Saturday night Victory Ball are going thick and fast now and if you haven’t got yours yet then now is definitely the time! Throughout the weekend the events marquee shall never be empty as we have a near constant programme of entertainers including Paul and Natasha Harper, Wing and a Prayer, and Rebecca Grace, fashion shows displaying both civilian and military clothing worn during the Second World War, D-day piper talk and music by Phil Meadows, and much more. For a full programme of Marquee events please check out our website: http://www.raucebywarweekend.co.uk/html/2012_programme.html

This truly is going to be the best year yet both inside and outside of the marquee! It is also my great pleasure to announce that the Allies vs Axis football match will be taking place again this year on both the Saturday and Monday. And remember people, space is becoming a premium as more and more people and vehicles book in so if you turn up on the day with a vehicle or a display without a booking there is a very real possibility that there may not be any space for you so get onto the website now and send us your forms!
