Ron
I have been sent these to hopefully identify them. The owner acquired them some years ago during a purchase of about 2 tons of mostly ex WD motorcycle stock. He was told they were Norton. But I don't think so. They have a 7/8" bore and 4 1/2" long, open at both ends and made from hard plastic or Bakelite. At first I thought they might be grips for the gunners two handles in a Brit Bren/Universal carrier, until I saw the open ends. The Canadian variant is made from rubber and has the relevant part number moulded in. Any ideas please. I gather he has a few and would like to list them correctly on ebay. Adrian Barrell
Ron, I dug one of those up in a pit of USAAF scrap. The general concensus at the time was that it might be a grip for a turret controller but that was purely an educated guess!
Rover8FFR
I would suspect rear pillion foot rest rubbers of a motorbike of some kind..... I guess most WD bikes were solo, so that might help....... A Bit ?? :-\
Ron
Thanks for the thoughts chaps, but nothing motorcycle related that I know of. Just for information:- from early 1942 most WD motorcycles were fitted with panniers and pillion seats during production, with lots of the earlier models retro fitted with these components.
