thedawnpatrol
I have noticed that the oil in my gearbox (HUMBER 4X4) is of a whiteish milky consistancy, slightly frothy when run ? The Transfer box oil is fine, as is the Engine. why would this be ? Cheers Jules

Cheers Jules Hi Jules, Not knowing what oil you might have in the gearbox and for how long it has been in there, makes it difficult to comment, but my first thought is water could be present, which may well be condensation if not been changed for a long time. 0 griff66
put fresh oil in it and see what its like then
0 Hunting Dukw
I would say you have water mixing in with the oil, might be a blown gasket.
0 griff66
probably lack of use and old oil
0 mogmaner
One thing to remember on these older motor, is that a non ep oil should be yoused if there is bronze in the box ,as the ep agent degrads the bronze bearings.
0 griff66
not quite correct ep90 is ok but use gl4 spec( but evidence of gl5 spec actually damaging bronze in trans /gearboxes is scant to say the least), but if u can find gl4 spec use it just in case Edited September 25, 2012 by griff66

0 mick garner
we had the same problem with our ferret when we bought it, the engine oil in the gearbox looked like salad cream, where moisture emulsifies with the oil and the EP90 in the final drive was a rusty foamy liquid. we changed both and 3 years later both still look clean. I know the ferret had spent many years idle. It pays to check everything on a newpurchase regards mick
