question Series 3 Land Rover 109 Recce real or wannabe?

There have over the years been a number of S3 Land Rovers that have been "restored" as "recce" vehicles in a kind of mickey mouse wanna be Pink Panther type equipment fits that honestly look so hokey.

 

Is there any documentary evidence of such a vehicle existing in service and can anyone post them or point me that way?

There is talk of a very elusive NI Panther produced in a low number , however AFAIK - nobody has ever turned out a photograph.. Odd ones claimed to be - but have been identified as NI RE 109" (RE = Royal Engineers / not Recce).
