Ian L Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Is this a WW2 bowser ? on a later chassis ? its for sale with a starting bid of £70. less than scrap value. Quote
Alex van de Wetering Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Ian, It looks like the tank from a Bedford MWC....indeed placed on a later traler chassis. Alex Quote
Gordon_M Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 There are two tank shapes, oval and with squared-off sides. I think the oval one is British, as found on the MWC and Morris Commercial, but this one has the squared-off sides I associate with the Canadian C15A and F15A Chevrolet and Ford. I'd guess the tank would be worth something to the owner of a c15A or F15A cab and chassis that was lacking a body ? G Quote
mcspool Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I agree with Alex, looks like a tank off a MW to me. Quote
mcspool Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Speaking of bowsers, can anyone ID this one? Looks postwar British to me. Quote
8_10 Brass Cleaner Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 The trailer chassis is an Ex BT cable drum trailer. Hence the yellow paint Quote
Pete Ashby Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Speaking of bowsers, can anyone ID this one? Looks postwar British to me. I think it is post war Hanno my guess would be 50's but may be later. Pete Quote
austintilly Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Maybe this thread on MLU can help a bit? http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6155 Quote
HubbyHumber Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 According to one of my books, it is a FV2401B - Trailer, Water (1 tonne if the Mk3, or originally 1 ton). The mark 3 was in service into the 1980's, but they were originally a 1950's 1 ton post war trailer carrying 200 gals of water. Your photo shows it with the same size and type of wheels as the 1 ton 1950's humber, which are the original type. The Mk 3 trailer was manufactured by either GKN Sankey, or Brockhouse (as I believer were the Mk 1 and Mk 2), with equipment by Thompson Tankers Ltd, Bilston, West Midlands. Unladen weight is quoted as 1.45 tonne and laden weight as 2.36 tonne. When restored would look very good behind a 1 ton Humber! Regards Adrian (AKA HubbyHumber) Speaking of bowsers, can anyone ID this one? Looks postwar British to me. Quote
