DVLA ******s

Guys,

Not at all MV relatd but some of you might have a bright idea.

Husband of someone I know online has had his licence stolen. Provisional book in 1988, Passed M/C test 1990, passed car test 1997. Licence was up[dated accordingly on each occasion.

When he applied for his replacement he was sent a provisional. DVLA deny any record of him having passed M/C test and although they acknowledge that he did pass his car test they deny that he ever return his pass certificate or that they ever issued him with a full licence.

He has ben warned that he is not legal to drive anything, except under provisioal conditions and all efforts, including those of the CAB have ben in vain as regards them shifting their position.

Any suggestions (that don't involve a visit to Swansea in a MBT)?

Happens quite a lot when re-newing licence that the bike test pass goes missing off it, always take a photo-copy of your licence before sending it away.

Has he got the certificates for passing the mentioned tests that he can copy and send to them.

Happened to me when I got my license back after the restrictions due to the epilepsy were lifted. I had the pass cert from the army for the full bike license but hadn't sent it in to get the actual license updated. When I got my full license back the bike group was missing - , as you say, DVLA would not budge. So it's all to do again :|:|

DVLA's standard of record keeping is quite a theme in motorcycle circles. It seems quite usual for the motorcycle entitlement to be left off when receiving a new licence for whatever reason.

Has the person in question had a "producer" or been convicted of anything since passing his tests ? If so there may be copies with the court or with the local police. Has an employer ever requested a copy driving licence ?

There is a moral here which is to photocopy EVERYTHING that you send to anywhere official including Insurers etc. Most of them no longer retain any paper files yet have pi$$potical standards of computer input.

DVLA are incompetent in almost every important respect (record-keeping, enforcement, privacy, co-operation with other agencies...) and are publically unaccountable. So what do you expect? It's a disgrace that they don't understand their own rules, won't give a straight answer to any enquiry and expect you to supply info. that you know you have already supplied previously. At the same time, if you mess up, they have given themselves the power to seize vehicles and impose exorbitant fines. It's high time they were taken to account. I don't know what the answer is but I'm sure there must be enough disgruntled people out there to make it worth petitioning no. 10.

Rant over until next time...

Hi

I sent paperwork from keeper of records for Auto Union, to DVLA for age related plate for the MUNGA. This was all original paperwork, and included the bill of sale from Auto Union.

I enclosed an SAE with a letter asking for return of the documents, as being not replaceable.

I sent all this to DVLA via registered letter.

I was told first by DVLA, that the paperwork had not arrived. Post office said it had been signed for! DVLA then claimed to have found it, and had returned it. But it never arrived to me.

DVLA, after long enquires tols me that the originals had been scanned, and then shredded! I asked them to obtain replacements, or compensate me for loss. No go, just poor photocopies of scanned documents. I asked if these would be ok if I need to provide documents in the future, and I was told that these were not any good!

I wrote to my MP, and was told it was an internal DVLA problem!

So I have given up, and in future I will take documents to my local office and have them copy them in front of me.

I know of a situation (still on going), where someone had a blackout and on several occasions has asked their specialists/doctors when should they send their driving licence off to the DVLA only for them to suggest not to do so for the following reasons:

Its not uncommon for them to be sent back missing bits like Bike licence etc, to eventually be returned 3 months later than they should.

And my favorite "until we(Docs) know what caused the blackout theres no point in sending it because they (DVLA) don't like it when we (Docs) don't know what caused it and they(DVLA) start sending us (Docs) letters".

Now this person had their appointment recently to discover what the cause was and ask again when to send the licence off and the Spec "said what you could do is send it or because we still don't know what caused it just keep it and not drive as they'll only send it back to you in 6 months once the year from blackout is up, also unless you send it to them they won't ever know, but if you do blackout again within the next 6 months you'll have to send it back."

So it seems not even people employed by the government like what the DVLA does to people and their livelyhoods.
