Engine paint colour for WW2 Bedford QL

Richard,

 

Presumably Bedford,Austin and all the other manufacturers would have furnished replacement engines and boxes in their original factory colour during the war but at what point then did the REME rebuilds system adopt Eau-de -nil ?

 

The idea was to make oil leaks more visible was it not ?

The standard post-war engine colour is BS381c shade 101 - Sky Blue.

Eau-de-nil was used for the interior of ambulances and wireless cabins etc.
