Fat Bloke Seat...

BIG AL PRICE

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

any ideas where to get one of the (seems to me)fabled seats for gentlemen with the fuller figure that i've read about?(please dont say "why not lose some weight?i did & feel much better for it" like they do on G503 as i like chips more than jeeps)

thanks,

Al

Must admit I was surprised at how tight it is in the drivers seat, Yanks must of been smaller back then. I happened on this while browsing yesterday.

http://www.1942gpw.com/c-45-G503_WWII_Jeep_Driver_seat_modification.aspx

seems a bit involved but might be what your after

I was going to suggest this method.

I had the same need for my jeep. I used this method witha slight variation. I cut a v in the tube, rather than cut completely and bent if to the angle of the wheel arch. Then welded when i got the angle right.

Mod doesn't look too obvious and driving position is not bad. Only bit I would add is that it shifts the cheek position ( both:-)) a bit further back so the cushion postion needs to be set right back in the corner of the seet.

I would think it would be quite obvious.. that web site does not show the PASSENGER SEAT installed... having the passenger seat still at the 'original' angle would make the drivers side sick out.. esp if you are talking 3 inches.

I was looking at the steering wheel bracket under the dash... it seems that you could re-angle the steering tube by shortening the legs of the bracket... since the tube is much longer than the seat, a small increase in angle would move the wheel 'up' and 'forward' a good bit.

Oh, and in the US D.L. Bensinger sells a 'larger mans' seat. I have no idea what the difference is.. but its more expensive than the repro seat from MD Juan.

I am 6'1" 280 and have looked at 'gut mods'. But I decided to eat less... more $$ for parts.

cheers for the replies guys!

i have seen that seat modification site before but wanted to compare the price of the fatty seat to buying a new/second hand seat & the pain of having to get it cut & welded etc.

i shall also have a look at the steering bracket & the Besinger website if i can find it.

any more info/hits,please keep it coming.

thanks again,

Al

I looked at messing about with that bracket, but still not enough on it's own. it would need to make the recess in the dashboard deeper. Can be done, but more work. Also altering the top end puts more stress on the steering box.

As for being noticable. when not in it I put a jacket/bag over the seat so it isn't so noticable. Also deters MoPs from climbing in !!!.

When i'm driving it... no one can see the seat anyway.:-D

Al,

Attached is a photo showing a 'well proportioned mens' seat modification that was in a jeep body I repaired years ago. Unlike your problem I had to reverse it.

The point is you may end up designing and fitting your own modification.

Good luck

Cheers

My jeep that I bought in 1980 and still have had the wing behind the drivers seat cut out and a recess formed so that the seat was back about 4 ins. from its original setting, making it a very comfortable and relaxed position to sit in. My jeep came from Ash farm, Templecombe and when I asked the previous owner about the seat position he told me that it was like it when he bought it at a surplus sale in Gloucester in 1946. It would seem that the mod was done while in service with the British army. I still cannot post pictures on here but could email some to you if you are interested, John.
