A few years ago I go a one-way hire from a national hire company, picked the trailer up in Wales where the 'project' was and returned the trailer to my local Peterborough depot. Very handy as it saved dragging an empty trailer half way across the country.

As for size, it will all depend what make and model of trailers your local companies stock. I think the trailer I got was a Brian James(?) and was big enough to take a Land Rover 110. Your best option is to get the dimension and weight of whatever it is you want to put on the trailer then phone round some of your local companies.
