Well its finally warm enough to start workin' on this beast again.

Got it delivered late last summer and had just enough time to tear it apart before the snow came and blocked access to the shop.

these are the pics i took the day it got delivered

The Oklahoma Forestry Service made all sorts of little useless modifications, and the dude they had welding... couldn't weld.

Other than that its' in surprisingly good shape. Not had a sticky bolt yet ether. Thought that was odd.. lol

Some pics of the tear down.

For some reason Oklahoma Forestry welded sewer grate between the bed and the tailgate.

Took about 5 minutes to get the engine unbolted.. HOWEVER, the max lift on our hoist was about an inch and a half too short. took me and the hippie another 45 minutes with some spare chain and a broken jack handle haha.

Thats it for tonight, but ill be stopin' at the shop tomorrow after school. well see what happens

nice work. whats the plan, will it remain stock?.

ive got one of these aswell. its diesel powered with a straight 6 york. i do have a 6.2 v8 diesel to fit in eventually,i think the cummins would have been a better choice but i came across the 715 gearbox adapter plate to fit the v8 so i went with that, just got to get a bellhousing to fit it. over here in uk this stuff is a little harder to get. and most 6.2diesel were fitted to auto transmissions of course.im sure the ebay will help.

keep the pics coming

yea the plan is to do it up stock all nice and purty. the v8 conversions are fairly popular in the states to turn them into mud trucks. mine came with the original 230 and its its pretty good shape. parts are not uncommon, but not as common as you might think. there is a pretty sizable NOS parts stock from the old toledo plant, but as of now it remains elusive.

all im missing to make mine drivable (not road worthy :-P) is the distributer and the carter 1bbl.

took the doors and seats off. found a rust hole behind the driver's seat.

one of 2 patches i need to make

the nifty rifle rack tucked behind the drivers seat

another shot of the Warner 4 Speed T98 transmission and Jeep I6 230 Tornado engine

the T98 is painted blue because we used it as a training aid at the school i go to. just thought id clear that up haha.

btw jimmy eng, the bowys at http://www.m715zone.com/vb/index.php can help you with finding a bellhousing that fits. forgot to mention that earlier

Hoookay. Now that thats all taken care of I've been able to get some work done over the past few days.

Firstly I decided to give the engine a good going over since i had'nt done that yet. Upon doing so I found the exhaust manafold was busted in two places.

Also tried to get the engine to rotate, but couldnt so i pulled the oil pan just to see if this engine was actually still alive. Upon inspection all pistons and cylinders are pretty much corrosion free. But the question remains why wont it rotate, but thats put off to the side for the time being since i still need a few engine componets anyways.

Next is the 'top', which consists of the windshield, arches and the homebuilt hardtop which has been all popriveted and welded together. The goal here, obviously, is to remove all welds and rivits to get it back to its original componets and im making good headway here

Unfortunatly the place I'm staying now has no internets and I cant upload pics from this computer, but fear not, they will be up as soon as I get a chance. Thats it for now folks but stay tuned... or whatever.

Try the old trick of heating engine oil in a pan till it just starts to smoke, then pour into the cylinders and leave for a while. Often gets through the varnish and grip. Parrafin, sorry mate Kerosene and disiel mix can also free off the pistons.

Finally got a chance to upload some piccys.

Here we have some good shots of the 230 tornado, and a look inside

Only the first and last piston appear to be stuck, and judging by the looks of the other 4, it shouldn't take much to revive this beast.
