ajmac
Guys, I'm currently looking into the various high street business bank accounts available, I'm excluding Barclays as I use them on a personal basis, the business must be seperate. Jim... Jack... et al who run your own businesses, any to steer clear from? PM is fine if your worried about it. My business will only be dealing with other businesses so there are no direct sales or 1000's of transactions to worry about. Nothing to do with our hobby - just Gas Turbines. alan turner (RIP)
well I worked for NAt west for 28 years but that was before they went Scottish and started playing silly beggars. Have to be careful how I put that as I get a fair pension from them each month.
Toolman
I use abbey, or santander as it is now. A totally free business account, if you keep within the limits (number of cheques cashed etc) Not a high street account though. everything done online or through post/cash m/c. No phishing please I've no money in it anyway

Jack
Hi Alistair, Good question and I am with Barclays too for business. I would stay clear of Abbey because they just aren't set up really for commercial (speaking from experience). All major high street banks are pretty much the same but the business press at the moment is rating Natwest - 2 years free business banking http://www.natwest.com/business/starting-a-business/two-years-free-banking.ashx And what I do like about them is that you can pick up the phone and speak to a fellow countryman - it saves and awful lot of stress - that is worth a lot. If you have dealing with a lot of international business and you want to make payments abroad/by dollars then I use AFEX Associated Foreign Exchange http://www.afex.com/unitedkingdom/index.html very effiecent and beat the banks spot rate hands down. If you are starting a business then an excellent magazine is Start Your Business magazine - http://www.sybmagazine.com/ A magazine I subscribe too and is sent from the US is the Entrepreneur Magazine - http://www.entrepreneur.com/ Any more questions then please fire away! Best wishes, Jack.
Gordon_M
My numbers people recommended HSBC as it was free for the first ( three?) years. I've never had a problem with them, though I'm sure other people might say differently. I have an extra little security access device and can do almost everything online. Any other candidates? jerry.ice
Have been with HSBC for the last 6 years, and very happy. Used to use Nat West before but thats another story. Who ever you choose look out for charges for paying in chqs and cash.
