trustmeimamechanic
What type of ship is she ? Came back from Dunkirk a few years ago on HMS Bulwark , we were picked up by landing craft and then taken straight inside Bulwark , she was then trimmed level again , the stern ramp raised and we just walked off the front of the landing craft up the "beach" onto the main deck , given Tea and a wad and allowed to wander over most of the ship , repeat performance when we got to Dover . Not sure what a lot of the cross channel ferry passengers thought when they saw 300 odd lycra clad cyclists sunbathing on the heli deck of one of Her Maj's ships :-) Had a good demo of Goalkeeper , and a good look at the imageing systems and radar in the control room too. Degsy
HMS Albion is a Landing Platform Dock, used as a command ship and troop and vehicle carrier for amphibious assaults and can also operate helicopters from the flight deck aft.

abn deuce
I think I read that they were sending an aircraft carrier to spain as well as several destroyers to pick up people?
Tony B
An aircraft carrier in a no fly zone. Only the British Goverment would come up with that one!
Meteor mark 4B
I'm sure only Albion was meant to pick up passengers at Santander. Two other ships were mentioned as possibles, but not used, and there were no destroyers. Excellent coverage on the news, rather a lot more than if the ship had just returned from deployment I would suggest. I am assured the whole episode (picking up passengers) was great, a real buzz on the ship, and good PR.
