robin craig
So, let us hear from fellow MJ owners. One of 3 in the collection, two runners and a spares truck that was a stupid price and really local so we bought it and drove it back. Here is a picture of our MJ CALM earning its keep hoisting roof parts for a barn we were building earlier this year and another in the shop. Of note is the "no new holes nothing welded on" boom extension that has been pivotal in erecting a few buildings since we have owned it, plus a really good tool for doing Ferret power pack removals. Lets see if the keen eyed ones can spot any anomalies! Lets hope this kicks off a good thread Robin
LoggyDriver
I would say the fly jib is a home built modification???
robin craig
Yes, boom extension is our own fabrication, no new holes nothing welded on as per our policy. Notice anything else non standard about the truck? R

ferretfixer
controls operated from top of the cab Crane operator NOT wearing an insipid yellow high viz vest?
Stone
Is the back-board on the bed cut down from the normal ones or are all the crane-equipped MJs like that? Also you have a jerry can rack by the spare wheel that I've usually only seen on the other side in front of the tyre inflator... robin craig
As we are in Canada, and the Health and Safety wombles that you endure in the uk are not here we dont have to wear an insipid yellow vest as soon as we get out of bed in the morning. Yes there is a mudflap missing, the gerry can rack was there when we bought it. The white wheel nuts were a "fluff fluff" detailing. The head board for the load deck is normal height for that variant. The crane controls are in the normal position. The cab roof protector was what I was wondering if anyone would notice. We bought that as a spare and modified it with a scallop around the crane controls. We were finding the cab roof very easily dented. I have looked but not seen another crane variant of this type with that protector mounted. Robin
LoggyDriver
I thought I would post some pictures of mine on here to get the thread even more interesting. This batch are the day I arrived at Withams to pick the truck up. The Volvo is the truck I drive in my day job. It was originally a Ptarmigan communications truck. The truck was at Withams for a few months before I bought it. I got them to take the comms gear off and to replace it with the TC I bought. The box on the back is a Electronic Repair Radar Body. This actually arrived the same week I went to have a look for a truck and I bought it straight away. It's only been issued to one unit, 9 Army Air Corps REME Wksps. They never used it, and so I got my hands on an un used body.:yay:

Do the trailer ramps extend sidewards - as the OT is wide but narrow tracked and has a nasty tendency to straddle the loading ramps!! Those present at W&P in 2008 will doubtless recall the ramp extensions that were knocked up from railway sleepers to get her on and off Rex's low-loader which has fixed ramps! :shake: :shake: :shake:

I can take a closer look when I've got some time. Looking at this picture they may slide along the box section. I haven't got a clue what his rates are. I think he works on a dartboard type setup, where the country is in zones and he charges according to where you are etc.

If you ever get him in a talkative mood - I'd be interested in hearing what he'd charge to move 13 tons of OT-90 @ 2.9m wide from Braintree in Essex to the War & Peace show and back afterwards.... Last years bill was over £800 - which is crippling when one is out of work for over 2 years!!  (Apologies for kind of hijacking your MK thread here Dave!!)
