Charawacky
Tim, I could not work out the truck was a Straker Squire in the lady drivers clip despite studying the rad in the 1 second stills! I agree the AEC production line is really quite fantastic.I think you have got them all, however here is an interesting clip on my favourite subject: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=75171 RFC Tender Plane Repair What type is the truck in the background of the shot with the aero engine mounted on a stand? Great War truck
Tim, What type is the truck in the background of the shot with the aero engine mounted on a stand? Tom. Not sure what that is. Not quite enough information to be able to tell. Tim (too)
Rlangham
Very interesting - the 'Lady ASC drivers' are members of the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, Officers judging by the uniform as opposed to the Workers - not surprisingly, driving was a very popular task for women of the WAAC. The dates of 1915 and 1916 are wrong though, the WAAC wasn't formed until 1917! Interesting to see the ASC shoulder titles worn though, haven't seen that before but it makes sense - WAAC's attached to the RFC used to wear the 'Royal Flying Corps' mudguards Edited October 6, 2009 by Rlangham
Old Bill
Tim, What type is the truck in the background of the shot with the aero engine mounted on a stand? Tom. Thornycroft J-Type do you think? The wheels are a bit of a give-away but it is just not quite clear enough to be sure. Cracking bit of film though! Steve
Great War truck
Not sure if that is a Thorny. I did at first because of the wheels, but then they didnt look right. Will have to watch it again. Anyway, the best ever clip of WW1 trucks is available here at "Images of a forgotten war" http://www3.nfb.ca/ww1/wartime-film.php?id=531402 Lots of different trucks all working very hard. Great War truck
A very interesting clip here, taken during the general strike: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=25277 You will have to wait until about 4 minutes have elapsed then there is a convoy (of what appears to be mostly Dennis's) with a Peerless armoured car at the front and the back.
