we you on active service? or was it UK~?

I was in 7 SQN RCT and we were in Cyprus on a UN tour Jan to Jul 92. The rest of the Regiment were still in the 'Shot. We came back from Cyprus and spent the rest of the year on exercise before going off to Bos' in 93.

In this period all the regiments vehicles never deployed on tour.

Hope this info helps.

Do you have any pics?

4 WFR is a T.A unit (Worcester & sherwood Foresters)

HQ SPT Wp Sc is the Netheravon support wing for the School of Infantry at Warminster. (I was one of the school Armourers there for 3 years!)

This was an attachment from 27 Command Wksps.

Warminster Suport Group is the MT at the School of Inf.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Mike.

Re HG COLL TRG GP is it def a G and not a Q as HQ collective trg group? which I believe it may be a pool vehicle for battle group trg exercises run from some of the battle schools- Warminster, Brecon etc

Also re RLC in 1992 - RLC was formed on 5 April 1993 - prev was RCT

UIN is another abbreviation that's good for an argument.

RAPC invented the UIN decades ago to index Unit Imprest Account numbers. It was the Imprest Account that handled things like cash payments to soldiers, petrol coupons (in BAOR) and MOD money transacted by the unit, unlike for example the Commanding Officer's Public Fund which gave him discretion to buy "stuff" and the various Mess funds.

When the rest of the Army went digital and discovered they need such an index, they hijacked UIN and called it Unit Identity Number.

Shockingly, Googling for "Unit Identity Number" returns a couple of hundred hits, whereas "Unit Imprest Number" returns not a single hit.

Units have been traditionally defined, not surprisingly, by Unit Name. I haven't yet defined the point, but this must have been supplemented in the 1950/60s to include Standard Unit Code.

SUC changed to UIN under a MAOS Amendment in August 1977. The year 1977 was the period of implementation of changes outlined in the 1975 Defence White Paper. This was the "One Army" concept to make the Regular Army & TAVR more integrated, heraldic signs were removed from vehicles & a more discrete identity marked in small characters on the nearside wing.

UIN these days also includes, not just Army units, but others authorised to deal with the MOD, in fact I have a UIN of my own!
