  1. I haven't seen it yet myself, but to get the funding they have to tick boxes on forms created by the educated historical professionals who know whats best. They have a degree you know.. Just my opinion of course.

the sender was corroded inside. It was easy to take apart and clean. Some chump had messed with wiring on the gauge moving the sender cable straight onto the 24v input terminal. once that was put right it was top banana. 13 volts on the gauge output. 20 to 340 ohms on the sender. Just sourced the metal to make my wheelstation removal stand.

Fixed the fuel gauge system today. big grin moment.
  4. Just fixed my stalwart fuel gauge system. It was behaving the same. Power on, gauge goes to full scale defection. First thing found was the contents sender was totally inop. This was easily fixed by opening the case and cleaning all the rust off. It then reads 20 ohms to 350 ohms depending where the float is. Second problem is the float was full of petrol. Lastly some muppet had played at the gauge and connected the power 24Volt and the sender cable to the dual spade connector on the indicator resulting in 24 volt at the sender. This should be about 13 volt coming through the gauge. Moved the wire for the sender over to the single spade connector and got 13 v at the sender wire, connected up the sender and bingo gauge works correctly. For info its a smiths system virtually identical to a mini system apart from 24volt and the button to switch to the oil tank sender.

Oh and I found 2 more wheel nuts and a£1 coin in the detritus under the bevel boxes. still nothing really exciting.

It is a standard ride height. I have done probably only a few miles road testing it in the time I've owned it. Both front boxes are Dry at the moment .Spin the right front wheel and all is at peace with the world , the front left is truly shocking. I will pull the wheelstation fix the boots ,replace the cork seal and change the bearings in the bevel box bearings. well thats the mornings work planned. john

Well I now need to pull the front left hand bevel gearbox... Its better with the repaired input pinion but still awful. So wheelstation off ..... Stalwart the gift that keeps giving...

Slowly working through the oil seals to stop the central lube system flooding the hull.

Dry and or lot of water...The oil seal was kaput and when I tried to fill the central lube system it filled the hull with ep90......... Nice

Input pinion to the bevel gearbox has been a tad noisy
  11. When it was "working" the colour of the seats became academic so long as it had seats, which could explain the mix and match. Later land rovers went through overhauls which I think had exemoor seats . Only an abuser of rovers I'm afraid not an aficionado. John
  12. I hope the forum doesnt mind but have a look here as well http://www.emlra.org/
  13. Hi I was in the Royal Air Force from 1985 to 1999 and I never saw any RAF Blue defenders or 110s they were Green , Green with a yellow strip around them, green and black camo or Yellow all with military number plates. The civyfleet with civilian number plates could be any colour but I personally didn't see any civy fleet landrovers. Oh and we "enjoyed" the V8 rovers immensely John

It certainly is an interesting engineering dilemma. Space is tight. I can see why people have used the existing muff but alignment would be difficult you certainly would have to stop, engage drive lift clutch and hope it slides in clean. The wear on the splines would increase dramatically if you didn't have full contact but I suppose you would only engage it when you needed it (hardly ever). I cant get my head around Ron's suggestion of machining the muff to support the drive shaft when not engaged. its a big old bit of steel. John

I have been thinking about it Ron. But how do you support the drive shaft when its disconnected? The shaft is thinner after the splines so you would have to pack a bearing out . John

Needed to get to the front bevel gearboxes. fuel tank out , hydraulic tank out. found the steering inline filter punctured .... and 1 knackered bevel gear box input... 10 pfennigs, 1 wheel nut ,1 knob for the winch drain compartment , 1 3/8 allen key and a windscreen wiper blade.
