  1. I met a chap last year who does pretty much as you intend to, he got round the business rates thing by calling his place a museum he only need open a handful of days to gain rate exemption. He said with a grin " I open Christmas Day, Cup Final day and two Mondays in December, never had a visitor but it keeps the council happy ". Have you tried looking into this ?
  2. Welcome Roberto your English is fine
  3. I am both ends of the spectrum with the DVLA, nearly six months to gain a V5c for a tractor and still waiting and under a week to register my Dodge WC 52. The tractor saga is on going and a complete pain in the ar5e I have filled in numerous forms, taken rubbings of the engine and frame numbers, and provided countless photographs all of which seem to either get swallowed in a black hole or lost "in the system". I have lost six months insurance and been without a working vehicle for that time also. My advice is follow Chris Brooks advice to the letter, take copies of everything, do not send original documents unless Chris tells you to, and send everything by Registered post. If you start having problems which if you follow the advice from Chris you shouldn't do, then complain loudly and get a persons name and department and stick with them if you just get a random advisor each time you will end up going round in circles. Good Luck :-)
  4. Two months ago I sent pictures and rubbings of my tractors engine and frame numbers unfortunately I sent them by normal post, they apparently never arrived either. Luckily nothing was irreplaceable and I sent the next lot by recorded delivery. I learnt from this and ALL my letters to the DVLA since have been by recorded delivery. I have never been to the DVLA offices at Swansea but I can imagine it is a huge place, your documents may be there somewhere and turn up eventually.
  5. I agree if they were good enough when the bullets were flying they are good enough now. If everything is in good shape 6v is fine. :-D
  6. I often hear people saying they are converting their 6v equipped vehicle to twelve volts to cure poor starting issues, I have two 6v vehicles a '43 GPW and a '42 Chevrolet G7107 and neither give me any problems whatsoever. However I have just purchased a '42 Dodge WC 52 and the starting was terrible, very very sluggish and often unable to turn the engine quick enough to start the vehicle. I firstly suspected the battery as it seemed fairly old and didn't appear to charge up very quickly so £138 later I had replaced the battery and still no difference  I had already been through all the earths and cleaned and replaced them where necessary but no joy. Sometimes the engine would catch first go but if I missed it the engine would not turn fast enough for a second attempt. The time had come to go to twelve volts or so I thought, but costing it up I thought I would try one last thing and have the starter reconditioned, at £70 it was cheaper than changing to 12v so after struggling to remove it I sent it away to a local independent guy who rebuilt it within 48hrs. The results are amazing the engine turns over as good as any 12v system and the engine starts first time every time ! Not only that but the original battery was fine so if I had had the starter checked first I would have saved £138. The chap who rebuilt the starter said a lot of 6v issues are simply down to bad earths, 12v cables being used instead of the heavier grade 6v ones AND worn/damaged starters. This may save anyone else in the same situation wasting money on converting to 12v when if my results are anything to go by it is totally unnecessary.
  7. As stated already you need a V55/5 which since the closure of all the local DVLA offices you can only obtain from the DVLA at Swansea. You merely need to ring and ask for one but be prepared to wait mine took 3 weeks to arrive. If you need an MVT vehicle inspection as part of your application to register your vehicle remember the vehicle has to be in basically one piece not, as many restorations are scattered across the workshop floor in a million pieces :-D " Brooky" on here is the MVT man to ask he is very helpful and if you follow his guidance you will hopefully find the whole process easy. Good luck :-)
  8. I sent photocopies of both my driving licence and utility bill, these were accepted no problem.
  9. I would guess if you contact Honda quoting the frame and engine number they will confirm if it is a UK spec quad NOT a grey import, Kawasaki do this for free, Yamaha charge and Honda may do also. Kawasaki confirmed my quad was a UK bike by return of post which enabled me to register it easily. The other issue is a " certificate of conformity " which official imports will have but some private imports may not have. You are lucky, it's a Honda not some here today gone tomorrow Chinese thing Obviously if it IS a UK bike Honda should/will have paid VAT on importation. Good Luck
  10. Welcome to the HMVF, loved my time driving Militant Mk3's in BAOR, cracking trucks !
  11. As I have said previously the MVT advice is the one to go with, they know the score and if they suggest enclosing say a copy of your insurance then send it, it's easier than having issues because you didn't. If you do get someone from the DVLA who seems to be unsure or contradicts themselves ask to speak to the complaints department, after months of hassle with trying to obtain a V5c for a tractor I own, I got so fed up I did just that. As a result I was put through to someone who not only took the time to go through all previous correspondence but rang me back to explain what was the next step. Often the first person you speak to is NOT the actual person best qualified to help but once you complain they will take things more seriously.
  12. I agree, I followed Chris' advice to the letter and had excellent results, I did put a note in with the application giving my mobile number and asked if they could please contact me should there be any problem, there wasn't but they still rang me to tell me the V5c was on it's way. All in all my advice is go with the advice from the MVT and if you do exactly what they tell you your application will be simple and painless
  13. Chris, I passed on to you the woman's name at the DVLA who was very very helpful to me during my recent application she not only did everything possible to help but rang me to tell me the V5c was on the way two days after I sent in my application. I suggest she would maybe be a point of contact if you have any problems in the future as she seemed very sympathetic to the problems involved. I have more details of her contact details should you need them. Best Wishes. D
  14. Given the huge numbers involved two months doesn't seem long but I agree better than two weeks :-D They weren't doing it in 1944 they were glad to see us, now we want to go and show our respect for the people involved 70yrs ago it all gets complicated. I hope it goes smoothly anyway.
  15. Try to tell any friends NOT in the MVT or on this site if they are planning to travel to the celebrations as this hasn't been well advertised elsewhere. I told a couple of mates last night in the same situation and they knew nothing about it ! It seems all very last minute we have been planning this for two years and now this with less than two months to go
  16. More good news regards the DVLA, I got my newly purchased Dodge WC52 registered and the V5c back in FIVE days, start to finish This was purely down to Chris Brook of the MVT, his inspecting officer Roger AND a very helpful lady at the DVLA who all bent over backwards to help speed things through, many many thanks to ALL of them.
