  1. I think I better understand the term 'exploded view' now. trevor
  2. I wouldn't mind the colour, the stripes - but why the fringe.... trevor
  3. It is hard to judge their size, but they look like fairly typical for the kind of mounts used for radios. I see there is white paint on them - could this be from some kind of AFV interior? trevor
  4. The way I see it is that there should be something available to restore for all pockets, whether it be a panzer or a commando bicycle. All I have is a Dinky Toys no.688 Field Artillery Tractor... :-) trevor
  5. Would the 1948 date be the build date or the date it was first registered for civilian use after being sold off from the military? trevor
  6. That looks like a nice place to work, Jacek! trevor
  7. I thought the advert was OK, can't really see a problem with it since we already accept the borrowing and repackaging of religious and many other values for advertising purposes. The only question I have is whether Santa will be transporting his Coca Cola on Liberty trucks any time soon? trevor
  8. I know very little about Champs; however, if 5th is the straight-through gear, then the drivetrain is effectively locked into a solid shaft from clutch to axle. In any other gear the drive goes through the layshaft, so the drivetrain is a solid shaft only from the gearbox output shaft to the axle. Hence the transmission of any noise from the axle to the gearbox will be different when in 5th. trevor
  9. While it may seem frustrating that other people, particularly younger people, do not share one's enthusiasm, it would be wrong to suggest that they are somehow less than us, much in the same way that we have made choices that many people from previous generations criticized. I mean, if I were reading some of this thread and I were still young or even a librarian, what I would be thinking now would be far from polite - and I might not even bother to read on, but leave to let these fossils rot in their own moaning. If we wish to have other people understand and respect our wishes, we ought first to consider that they may be reading our words and forming their opinions from them. trevor
  10. They will put your car in the crusher if you go to merely take pictures, kick the tyres, or complain about the state of the scrap metal industry... trevor
  11. I have a niggling memory, which suggests I did a gas turbine test using a Palouste engine while I was at Loughborough university. I remember noise and impressive fuel consumption. trevor
  12. Do we get to see you restore it, hans, I love seeing trailers come apart! trevor
  13. I wonder what the organizers were aiming for with the IWM? I would imagine that many of their exhibits are getting rather ancient and delicate now. trevor
  14. As I said earlier, I would try removing all the fuses to see if you can find the circuit that is supplying power. It could be a short circuit in the loom somewhere, or in the indicator/headlamp switch for example. If you pull all the fuses and the lights stay on, then you will only have ignition switch supply, headlamp supply and a few other circuits that the power could be coming from. trevor
  15. Have you tried turning on the headlights and other lights? It is possible that you have some other kind of failure where the power is now earthing through your indicator circuit. You could also try removing the fuses one by one. trevor
  16. Well, that is a bit of you know what, reminds me of my old, dying Sunbeam. I just had a look back at your rebuild - do you think there is a chance the gasket became misaligned or was damaged before it was torqued down properly? If you have some old cylinder head studs, you could lop the heads off and cut a slot in them and use them as guides to keep the gasket in place while you drop the head on. trevor
  17. And it yellow lines at a whole 3000 rpm... trevor
  18. Actually, I have seen many museums designed by Marxists - generally just a load of stuff with little in the way of explanation, with some older woman sitting on a stool in one corner making sure you do not attempt to deface or steal anything from the displays. trevor
  19. It is good to see that you were able to resolve that oh so frustrating problem! trevor
  20. So how much of a restoration do you expect to do, paint and surface rust or disassembly? trevor
  21. Really? That reminds me of an armoured car I saw outside a museum here in Poland - and this dumbass forgot to take any pictures... :nut: trevor
