been visiting mum, did it make it into the air. I remeber in the early 70's seeing one for the first time. Camping with mate in Weardalem looking south over the valley top and all of a sudden this BL***Y great big thing appears in the sky, a sight I'll never forget. Bazz.

The reason it was done, the Troopy in Question used to just grab any gat when he had to dismount, so jock went for a shovel recce with the Tpy's and buried it. Over the next day when he got off he got passed another one, so come AA/BB time tpy's had been missing 24 hr. Bazz.

To be pedantic, the large cupola on a Spartan is the Gunner/Radio Ops posn and the small hatch on the right side is the designed Comdrs posn.:cool2: Bazz

yes, I meant pre diesel, and correct about incident, I served with one of the crew members with QOY prior to joining LD. Bazz

slightly off thread that was the main problem with post diesel CVRT, the crews literally sitting on the huge amount of petrol carried. The LD's lost a Spartan and crew in Bosnia due to a secondary igniting the fuel after the Spartan had run over a mine. bazz.
