I think it was mentioned on here some time ago that the Spec's for the winch cable used on the CCKW at least was a combination of exterior metal wire with a hemp rope core hence it being called wire rope . That when it failed it parted with less violence due to the hemp rope. I agree that a heavy cloth draped or tied to the cable is a good idea and to keep others well away from the reach of a broken cable and that one inspect's the cable every time its used .
  2. Its never a good thing to have happen but once it's done you will know that at least the clutch will be in top condition for a long while .

  8. Cheapest way to go unless you really need the four wheel drive option is not to use it so as not to have the drive line fighting its self . Guess disconnecting the front axle would be the best .
  9. Truely one of the hardest infection's to try and rid yourself of is the O.D. one . Once it attaches itself your never really the same again . So best advice is don't fight it but take daily doses of the Friendly Forum and ask question suggest solutions and simple have a good time. Mind you there are cleaning duties to be done by you until the next person joins up .   10. True no sign that they were helping the operation by powering the vehicle , I saw no sign of the tracks moving . Thats a Lot of cable 300 yards or more !

  16. Another Welcome to the Friendly Forum from the Heartland of the U.S. where about are you ? The Club house grounds are very interesting as there are amoung other things a sand pit for a bit of off roading a very swampy bit for those with amphibious vehicles a lake for the Naval part of the club several outbuildings for the bicycles and motorcycles a very large Carpark oh yeah a huge parking lot for all manner of wheeled and only those track machines that perfer not to get sand or dirt in their tracks .

  20. How many ton was the wrecking gear rated at ! look's like it could easily lift a house !!!
  21. Would there be a way to work around the habit? by increasing the pitch on the fan blades and or using electric motors on the fans to keep them going longer at shut down ?
  22. I take it that the lower the number to greater the recoil ......the more exhaust gas traped to chamber the next round ?
