  1. With steering by armstrong it's best to have the vehicle creeping in either direction while manovering the steering wheel , something those with "power steering" never think about unless the steering pump belt squeals
  2. :rotfl::rotfl:You really need to go the other way once you have the Duals up front anything else is overkill , this is where you get the pulling power.:rofl:
  3. Welcome to the Friendy Forum , Please to leave any scorpions or simular critters in the Desert as the Club house grounds are far to cool and wet for their liking . On the other hand any photo's or stories of HMV discoveries are eagerly a waited !!
  4. A few big air lifting bags , large compressor a few cables and divers float it close to shore and winch on to the beach with a pair of Ward La Frances.Easy Peaseey.
  5. Wonderful story please continue with all the details you can recall !
  6. An interest in O.D. is the only requirement .The longer one is exposed to the fumes and semi toxic effect's of all things Historically Military the sooner one moves from looking to owning something , as others have said making small scale models is fun , to make things easlier build in 1:1 scale .
  7. So many people worked behind the those that went ashore was the number like 50 to one or ? As was already said like the mine sweepers , Air crews both in reconnaissance and attack aircraft , the explosives and demolition teams that swam ashore on the beaches to remove and destroy the beach obstructions and all the others that loaded the ships and handled the supplies that equipped the Allied forces. It could not have been done with out all of them .
  8. No offence taken at ALL. It was something mentioned by Ranger on the WWII dodge forum and your post seemed a good time to pass on his instructions.
  9. clip on youtube of GMC with front duals the front then has the same track width as the rear's
  10. I think all other HMV's would loose to the superior capacity of a Hippo for hauling food and family maybe a HEMMETT with a communictions body would be equal ?
  11. Sounding better all the time , Have you read about the S.S. John W. Brown one of the last active Liberty ships? here's the link http://www.liberty-ship.com/
  12. Thought I help you to be one of the few to do it correctly . As far as I know that applies to all U.S. Army vehicles with dual wheels
  13. Lets see with 1000 plus members that would be roughly 500.00 each equals 500,000.00 total ....so that would be an average good couple days of holiday fun seems doable and I 'd hope by buying it as a Museum it would be vat exempt , but as for the restoration and dock fee's Oh yeah, I wonder whats the bill would be to fuel it up just once !
  14. I m afraid I m not familiar with that hand signal , is it something special to English driving ?
  15. Just make sure when you remount the rears wheels that the valve stems are 180 degrees opposite each other on each hub then you will have done it correctly per the TM.
  16. A link to a set of photo's I had posted previously about the 1989 South Sea event http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=6706&highlight=portsmouth
  17. Yes Thank you wasnt sure if it was a civilian conversion or a military one .
  18. An example I found that will help since it is of Miltary vehicles and some very Green Country side , Can some one id. the wrecker?
  19. Any one thought about my suggestion , Perhaps several people are currently working on a Video for the group ?
  20. Yes the group over on that side of the Sea has a number of Rallies and Displays that many of the members attend with or without their vehicle depending on distance and conditions , just look through the site and you can see photo's from the different events that have been posted about them. There are model makers and builders of all scale sizes up to 1:1 also in the group .
  21. True for the long haul and for the most educationial use and public exposure you need a Foundation or Trust along with Government help . On the private side I was thinking of the Littlefield's and Wheatcroft collection's those Historic Military vehicles would never have been saved or rebuilt to such exacting standards with a large Museum ,the politics of groups and people within and outside keep things from happening and the mindset is dont take risks or expose the collection to bad press.
  22. i think the empty weight would be 2.3 tons for wc51/52 roughly
  23. That'a a universal problem , Its left up to the private Collector to save and protect these priceless HV's .....there never will be any more authentic < fill in the year and model > ever made again .

    MV DVD's

The records might be better off if the hiss and pops were left in as thats the way they would have sounded at the time . True you could also have a transfer made with the sound quality edited to a more modern standard as a option ?
  25. Thats very understandable , and Welcome to the Friendly Forum , Great photo's and not to worry if somethings in the wrong thread the Mods can shift it if they feel it should be . Just an example of the War material sent from the United States being used by the different Allied forces.
