  1. Congratulations Paul! Does your new partner share your interests? Nice part of the world, the Peak District around Tissington. Far better than the Urals (so I'm told….). Tony
  2. You should be able to get one from the vintage power wagons website (don't have the link).
  3. You can get those combined pumps from Chevsofthe40s.com and other classic car parts suppliers. These fuel pumps all look the same but I don't know if the operating arms are different for different engines.
  4. Some wonderful colour footage there, Steve! I wonder if your jeep was never intended to stray off base hence no blackout white markings? They seemed pretty hot on white markings as a rule.
  5. The only vets I've met have been USAAF air/ground crew and I think I know what you mean ('cos I sometimes feel the same) - it takes a lot of emotional energy to engage with them. But I also think you do yourself an injustice - the fact that you wrote the above just goes to show the depth of your understanding of what they went through. And at their age I'm sure they'd delight in chatting you up!! :-D
  6. I've been advised to put in a claim for whiplash. :coffee:
  7. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Well someone had to stay behind on D Day and look after the shop….

  9. I guess only time will tell, but I smell right……..
  10. Wow. Is that plastic cladding? Even with insurance that's one heck of a disruption to cope with, hope you all get back to normal before too long.
  11. Like that's going to stop us :cool2: Anyone know which Dakota is he jumping out of? By the time he gets back the clubhouse Mulberry Har Bar will have been totally transformed by a coat of Deep Bronze Green and a new bar island made from Scammell Explorer lockers with a polished Leyland Martian gun plank top.
  12. Don't know if you have access to a TM, but just had a quick look: Assuming jets set correctly, what about sticking crankcase ventilating valve? Idling circuit in carb clogged? White smoke indicates brake fluid but no idle / running without choke suggests poorly adjusted jets?
  13. For anyone thinking a Cummins B Series might be a bit tame and slow (best I've heard of automotive-wise is 230hp @ around 2500rpm and for marine application 300hp - adequate cooling), the folk at Sin City Motors (Dave channel this evening on TV) have just installed a tuned B Series into a rat rod. Now before you all fall around laughing: if I heard correctly this one gives out 800hp at 6,000rpm, and will boost to 1,000hp with nitrous injection. WTF?
  14. What about the 2 year Open University Degree in HGV?
  15. WW - that is from the ww2 CMP parts book and manual. But www.egge.com list conrod bearings in std and oversize for 216 engines 1948 onwards, so if your engine has separate shells it must be a later engine or have been converted on rebuild. I don't think the Egge part numbers are Chevrolet numbers, but they have a very good reputation for quality components supply.
  16. Not listed - the bearing material is centrifugally cast or 'spun in' into the conrod forging so is part of the conrod assy. I assume if you have to grind a crank you simply remove shims from conrod cap until you get a nice fit (or so the manual says).
  17. More from Woolpit: There's a very good chance this Vigor is ex British Army (ex Peter Fordham collection, I didn't get a chance to speak with the owner). Note the unusual arm side control rollers.
  18. What a great selection of MVs - enjoy the trip!
  19. I think that is taking 'point of collection' a bit too far - buses belong on roads (and certainly not on dedicated guided bus routes). :coffee: CPC has certainly put an end to 'occasional' driving to help people out which is a pity. I'm not sure it is doing anything to help improve the status of HGV drivers - elsewhere in Europe they seem to be treated with more respect then in UK.
  20. Yes, I noted a distinct effort to establish a high minimum lot pricing! :cool2:
  21. http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22201/ Take your pick of engines, radiators, axles, wheels, bare chassis, complete trucks. The vehicles start around lot 1200 plus.
  22. Not when you realise he is more at home with restoring heaps of junk that most of us would not give a second look, than using computers and the www. I know he has had problems finding his way back to HMVF in just the same way that i have had problems sorting out some of my restoration work that he can do with his eyes shut! I've only just found this thread and will pass on your reply to him this evening - I'm sure he will appreciate your help Ron. Tony
  23. Looks like someone beat you to the wheels……..:cool2: Does look very nice!
